Merrell Shoes for Kids – The Most Versatile Shoe for the Child and the Parent

Have you been looking for a pair of supportive and durable slip-on shoes for your child? There is one particular shoe made by the shoe company Merrell that is one of the most versatile children’s shoes that I have fitted for children. Merrell shoes for kids are durable, comfortable, supportive and they can accommodate different foot shapes.

The Merrell Jungle Moc is a slip-on shoe that will keep your children’s feet warm and dry and children love the simplicity of sliding into and out of these shoes. This type of shoe is mostly used as a school shoe, but depending on how fancy the occasion is, it might also be worn as a dress shoe.

The main reason why I recommend this shoe style is that it’s lightweight —the svelte 1 pound 6 ounce weight makes these shoes feel like walking on air—, immensely comfortable —the time-tested footbed also adds to the comfort— and they work for almost every occasion, making them one of the most versatile children’s shoes.

If you’re pressed for time, you can jump directly to the selection of the best Merrell shoes for kids.

Are Merrell Shoes Durable?

Parents always feel frustrated when their children wear out their shoes before they are ready to be replaced. Some children are so rough on their shoes that they will destroy them before they grow out of them.  I always explain to parents that since children grow so fast —they might outgrow their shoes anywhere between 4 to 6 months— they should always outgrow their shoes before they wear them down.

The good news is that the Merrell Jungle Moc is basically an indestructible shoe. I will show you this shoe style shortly, but first I want to describe what features this shoe style provides for your child and how to figure out your child’s foot size from home.

Merrell Shoes for Kids – The 5 Most Important Features!

Your child will want to wear this shoe style all the time. These are the 5 most important features that this shoe provides:

1️⃣ Support: This shoe style comes with a substantial outsole to minimize the impact that your kids’ feet take every time they come in contact with the ground.

2️⃣ Firm Heel Counters: This feature helps provide ankle support to your kids’ feet. A firm heel counter also absorbs shock and adds stability.

3️⃣ Traction: This shoe style provides excellent traction that will minimize the chances of your child slipping and falling.

4️⃣ Waterproof: This feature helps keep your kids’ feet dry and warm. The waterproof suede upper with M-Select DRY sealing provides dryness and comfort. This feature becomes very handy for those rainy school days.

5️⃣ Durable: This shoe style is practically indestructible. It provides a rubber outsole and a rubber toe-box at the front of the shoe that will hold up even if your children like to drag their feet as they walk. The waterproof pigskin upper gives the shoes good durability in varied weather conditions.

Let’s face it, you probably don’t want your child to wear wet shoes and socks since this can create a myriad of problems.

I only write reviews of shoe styles that I have fitted before, otherwise, I wouldn’t know how well-made they are, the amount of support that they provide, and how they fit.Disclosure: Some links in this post may be affiliate links and we may receive a small commission (at no extra cost to you) when you click our links and make purchases. If you are looking for a pair of seasonal shoes for your child I suggest that you refer to the article below:

There is one thing you need to keep in mind, if you don’t provide your children with the correct size, they won’t get any of the benefits that the shoes have to offer. This leads me to this next question: Are you 100% sure of your child’s foot size?

I always recommend parents take their children to their local children’s shoe store that they trust, the issue is that most stores have been closing down and parents need to end up buying their kids’ shoes online. There is nothing wrong with this, but you must know your child’s exact foot size to know what size to order.

I created a resource that showcases the best-fitting children’s shoe stores by state.

Determining Your Child’s Exact Foot Length and Shape

If after looking at that resource you still can’t seem to identify a shoe store in your area, then proceed to take a look at an article I created that describes the simplest, yet most effective way to figure out your child’s foot size from home.

If you notice that your kids’ feet are slipping out of the shoes, don’t exchange them for a smaller size just yet. I recommend fitting a tongue pad inside of the shoes, which is going to push your kids’ feet against the back of the shoes, securing and preventing the heels from coming up and down.

I describe how to fit tongue pads in shoes in a different article.

What Makes This Shoe Style so Special? – It’s Versatility!

I can assure you that the structure, support and overall quality of this shoe is excellent. I have a co-worker who wears the adult version of the shoes and told me how they are the most comfortable shoes that she has ever worn. In addition to that, she was experiencing foot and leg pain, which was significantly reduced after wearing these shoes. These shoes are the perfect combination of cushioning, comfort, stability and support.

Keep in mind that this endorsement came from a person who is working on her feet for 10 hours a day. The best part is that she was able to get the kid’s version of the shoes and ended up paying half of the price that she would have paid for the adult version of the shoes.

Did you know that if you are a women’s shoe size 8 1/2 or below you can wear the kids’ version of the shoes? I am talking about the same quality and the same amount of support, but for half of the price. I created a chart that shows you how this shoe size conversion works:

I also wrote an article where I describe how this shoe size conversion works in more detail.
