Narrow Shoes for Girls – The Best Everyday Shoes for Girls with Narrow Feet

narrow-sneakers-for-girls

Have you been looking relentlessly for a pair of everyday shoes for your girl with narrow feet? Did you know that even though parents complain about their children with wide and extra wide feet it is actually a lot harder to find shoes for a child with narrow feet?

I have fitted a large selection of shoes that come in wide and extra wide widths, but the selection of shoes for kids that actually come in narrow widths (N) is actually very small to non-existent.

The main issue is that shoe companies are not making shoe styles in narrow widths. This is not because there are not children with narrow feet out there, the issue is that most parents are not even aware that their children have narrow feet and end up buying regular width shoes. The good news is that I know which shoe styles fit narrower than others, and I will help you find them.

If you ever wore a pair of walking or running shoes that were too wide for your feet you should know by know how uncomfortable that feels. When we wear shoes that are too wide, our feet move too much inside the shoes and rub against the side or back of the shoe. If you provide your kids with shoes that are too wide for their feet, you will end up creating all sort of foot issues such as blisters, calluses, and corns.

What Makes the Sneakers I Recommend Effective for Narrow Feet?

The sneakers I recommend provide 2 key features that makes them the best choice for girls with narrow feet:

✅ Narrow Toe-Box: The shoes I recommend provide a pointier toe-box instead of a rounder one.

✅ Narrow Heel Counter: The shoes I recommend all provide a narrow heel counter instead of a rounder one. Take a look at the image below for clarification purposes. Do you notice how the heel counter of the shoe on the right image is a lot narrower compared to heel counter on the left image?

Let’s take a look at the image below for better visualization purposes:

I know which shoes are narrower than others as I have been fitting children’s shoes for the last 10 years at a specialized children’s shoe store that focuses in children with foot and leg problems, as well as regular shoe fittings. Over the years I became familiar with the best shoes for kids with narrow feet.

Let’s start by making sure that your girl has narrow feet indeed.

How to Check if Your Girls’ Shoes are too Wide?

Check if the shoe is gaping too much around your girl’s ankles, creases in the front, or visually looks too wide, then these are all signs telling you that your girl has narrow feet. Let’s take a look at some pictures of children wearing shoes that are too wide for their feet.

Do you notice how much extra shoe material there is in the front of these shoes? This is the first sign that the shoes might be too wide for this child’s feet.

Do you notice how much extra space there is around the heels? I am not supposed to be able to fit two fingers around this area. This is also a sign that the shoes might be too wide.

Like I mentioned before, wearing shoes that are too wide can create a myriad of problems, so we must first identify whether your kids have narrow feet and then find that particular shoe style that comes in a narrow width or fits narrower than others.

Before I show you a selection of the best narrow shoes for girls, I want to first make sure that you know your girls exact foot size. You won’t be able to order the correct shoe size online if you don’t know what your girls’ foot size is to begin with.

Are You 100% Sure of Your Child’s Foot Size? – Let’s Find Out!

I always recommend parents to take their children to their local kids’ shoe store to be properly fitted for shoes. The issue is that most specialized children’s shoe stores have been closing down. Take a look at a map I created where I describe the best fitting childcare’s shoe stores by state:

If after reading that article you still can’t seem to find a shoe store in your area, then proceed to take a look at an article where I describe the most effective way to make sure you provide your child with the correct shoe size:

In order to allow for growing room, I highly recommend that parents order these shoes a whole size larger than the size their children’s feet measure. This translates to 0.6 inches or 1 centimeter of space between your child’s longest toe and the end of the shoes.

In addition to fitting the shape of your child’s narrow feet, these shoes provide several important features such as:

✅ Shock absorption: This feature helps minimize the impact that your kids’ feet take every time they come in contact with the ground.

✅ Ankle support: This feature supports and protects your kids’ ankles.

✅ Breathable: This feature allows your kids’ feet to breathe and prevent the formation and buildup of bacteria inside the shoes.

✅ Traction: This feature prevents your child from slipping and falling down, specially when walking or running around wet surfaces.

The Best Shoe Brands for Girls with Narrow Feet – Let’s Find Out!

Parent are always asking me: Why don’t shoe companies make more kids’ shoes in narrow widths? I believe that the main reason for this must be the lack of demand. However, lack of demand is not due because there are only a few children with narrow feet, it is due because most parents are not aware that their children have narrow feet.

There are very few children’s shoe brands left that make everyday children’s shoes in narrow widths. It is true that there are certain kids’ shoe styles that fit much narrower than others. Two shoe brands that you might want to start getting familiar with when shopping for your kids’ every day shoes are called Saucony and Asics.

Don’t assume that all Saucony and Asics shoes can fit the shape of your girl’s narrow feet. Among these two shoe brands there are certain styles that fit a lot narrower than others, and those are the ones I recommended. narrow-shoes-for-girls

Shoelaces VS Velcro Closure – Which one is Better for Kids with Narrow Feet?

If your girl knows how to tie her shoes you should take advantage of that, as shoelaces tend to fit children with narrow feet a lot better than any other type of shoe closure.

There is a specific shoe lacing technique that I came up with that pushes the child’s feet against the back of the shoes, securing and preventing the heels from slipping off the shoes. You can learn about this shoe lacing technique if you go to the link below:

  1. Thanks for this helpful article. My daughter has very narrow feet and I love Geox brand shoes. Would this brand also be a good option for her narrow feet (shes a size 9 toddler).

    • My daughter also loves her Bogs classic boots (infant style). I need to buy the next size up. Are these a good option for narrow feet? Its hard to tell with boots since I can’t see the heel.

      • Bogs tend to fit better a medium to a wide foot. However, since they are worn for a very short period of time you won’t create any issues to her feet. Have you ever heard of the Naturino shoe brand? Those type of boots fit much narrower than Bogs but again it depends on how narrow your daughter’s feet are.

    • Hello Susie,

Geox makes some of the best children’s shoes. I love their quality and support. I will say that it depends how narrow your daughter’s feet are. Saucony and Asics definitely fit narrower than Geox, but it will depend on the style. Is there a particular Geox shoe style that you had in mind for her?
It’s hard to answer your question, I would say that if your daughter has very narrow feet stay away from Geox and go for Saucony or Asics. Otherwise give them a shot.

  2. I agree that Naturing fit narrow feet! My daughter’s feet are so narrow, that she could wear extra narrow ballet shoes! Thanks for the info.

  3. Hi! My daughters have very narrow feet. This website is so helpful. I will share what I know. I have had some good luck with Kamik boots the styles with velcro adjustment over the top of the foot.

    • Hello Nadine,

I haven’t fitted as many Naturino Express shoe styles, but the ones I fitted were consistently narrow. Eery shoe style fits a little different so if you are looking into a particular style let me know and I will be able to tell you how narrow it runs.

      I hope this helps.

  4. Hi, I have the hardest time getting shoes for my daughters. They have the narrowest feet I have ever seen. If you have time for a recent update, I would greatly appreciate it. Plus, my 10 year old daughter looks like she has flat feet. I am considering getting SuperFeet orthodic inserts.

    • Hello Jennifer,

My articles are all up to date and the shoe recommendations get updated on a monthly basis, even if the article was published on a different date. If you tell me what type of shoes you are looking for your daughter (every day running sneakers, dress shoes, or seasonal footwear), and what shoe size she wears, I can send you specific recommendations.

Is she experiencing foot and leg pain?

  5. Hi Juan Pablo,

I have a narrow-foot question: My 5 year old daughter has very narrow feet and high arches. On your recommendation, we’ve been wearing Asics Contend sneakers (size 13), which are great! But we’re looking for a shoe with laces, rather than velcro (she likes her shoes to fit so snugly that the velcro loses its stick and pops open). Do you have any recommendations?

Thank you so much for the work that you do!

I hope that you and your family are well.

    Miranda Smith

    • Hi Miranda,

I hope you and your daughter are well and staying safe.

That’s great that she is ready for shoelaces as they will fit the shape of her narrow feet better. For some reason, all Asics kids’ shoes with shoelaces are available starting from a shoe size 1. Some children who wear a shoe size 10.5 already know how to tie their shoes, so I always found it very odd that Asics doesn’t offer shoes with shoelaces in smaller sizes.

If your daughter is willing to try shoes from a different shoe brand I will be happy to send you specific shoe recommendations. The other kids’ shoe brand that makes narrower shoes for kids is Saucony.

  6. Hi again,

I forgot to add that (as you probably know!) most sneakers in my daughter’s size (13) are only available with velcro closures.

    Thanks!

    Miranda Smith
