Are you looking for a pair of dress shoes for your toddler with narrow feet? Do you feel like every dress shoe style that you try for your toddler is too wide?
Finding a pair of dress shoes for your toddler with narrow feet can be a frustrating experience if you don’t know what shoe style to look for, but I have been HELPING parents find the perfect pair of shoes for their kids ONLINE for the last three years and I am confident that I will be able to help you find them.
Believe me when I tell you that I can save you a lot of time and money, since I know which shoe styles are better than others in terms of fit, materials, and support.
I have been working at a specialized children’s shoe store for over 10 years now, and I handle approximately two hundred shoe fittings and try-ons per week. I have fitted hundreds of children’s shoes, and I am familiar with which shoe brands and which shoe styles are better than others.
I have noticed that most toddlers have wide or extra wide feet, and there is only a SMALL number of toddlers with narrow feet.
Before deciding which dress shoe style to provide your toddler with narrow feet, we need to take into consideration how stable your toddler is when walking or running. If your toddler is still learning how to walk and seems wobbly when walking or running, we must find a dress shoe that is extremely soft and flexible. On the other hand, if your toddler is already walking, then we must find a more substantial and supportive type of dress shoe.
Do you know what are the two MOST important features that a dress shoe must provide for kids with narrow feet? The shoes must come with a narrow heel and a pointy toe-box instead of a wide one.
While there are several dress shoes available in wide and extra wide widths, the selection of shoes for toddlers with narrow feet is a lot smaller. However, there are certain dress shoe styles that will fit your toddler with narrow feet, and I will HELP YOU find them.
In this article I will show you a selection of the best dress shoes for toddlers with narrow feet, but first I want to show you what features the dress shoes must provide and how to make sure that you are providing your toddler with the correct shoe size.
Dress Shoes for Toddlers – Important Features!
Besides fitting the shape of your toddler’s narrow feet perfectly, the dress shoes that you choose for your toddler must provide the following features:
- Support: Even though your toddler will wear these shoes for a couple of hours and once in a while, it’s important for the dress to provide support so your toddler can run and play comfortably.
- Lightweight and Flexible: While we want the shoes to be supportive, we also need them to be lightweight and flexible at the same time. This will prevent your toddler’s feet and legs from easily getting tired.
- Durable: If you want your toddler to wear his or her dress on a regular basis, it’s important for the shoes to be durable so your child can outgrow the shoes before they get destroyed.
These are the 3 most important features that your toddler’s dress shoes must provide. However, I am always explaining to parents that it doesn’t matter how many features a particular shoe style provides, if the shoes are not fitted properly, your toddler will not get any of the benefits that the shoes have to offer. What’s even worse, you will end up creating issues to your child’s feet such as blisters, calluses, or corns.
That is the reason why I always recommend parents to take their toddlers to be fitted for shoes at their local kids’ shoe store, where a shoe fitter can properly measure their feet and find shoes that FIT.
If you don’t happen to have a local kids’ shoe store that you trust, then you should START by reading an article I wrote called:
That article will explain you the simplest, yet most effective way to figure out your toddler’s foot size from home.
Facts About Toddler’s with Narrow Feet – Take Note!
Here are some interesting facts about children with narrow feet:
- I have noticed that only a very small percentage of toddlers have narrow feet, which means that narrow feet in toddlers is not common (main reason why shoe companies don’t provide dress shoes for toddlers in narrow widths).
- Shoe width is the most important part of fitting a shoe. It doesn’t matter how much room your toddler has in the front of the shoes, if the shoes are too wide then you will have to replace the shoes faster than you expected it.
- Wearing shoes that are too wide will put your child at risk for developing serious foot deformities such as blisters, corns, and bunions, just to name a few.
Why are Narrow Dress Shoes for Toddlers so Hard to Find?
There is NOT a single dress shoe style for toddlers that comes in narrow widths. The good news is that I know exactly which dress shoe styles fit narrower than others, and I will show them to you.
The main reason why shoe companies are not making dress shoes for toddlers with narrow feet is the lack of demand. The issue is that most parents are not even aware that their children have narrow feet.
Now that you know what features a good dress shoes must provide and how to find out your toddler’s foot size, let me show you a selection of the best dress shoes for toddlers with narrow feet.
Dress Shoes for Toddlers with Narrow Feet – Find Them Here!
Please keep in mind that I only review shoe styles that I have fitted before, since that’s the only way for me to tell the quality of the shoes and how they FIT.
Shoes can run short, long, narrow, or wide, and depending on how they fit you need to adjust the size that you get for your child.
Here you can find a selection of the best dress shoes for boys with narrow feet:
Please keep in mind that all of these shoe styles fit “short”, which means that you need to go a half a size to a whole size longer of the size that your child measures in the standard foot measuring scale (Brannock device), in order to allow for growing room.
Here you can find a selection for girls:
This selection of shoes also fit “short”, meaning that you also need to go a half a size to a whole size longer of the size that your child measures in the shoe measuring scale in order to allow for growing room.
Socks or No Socks with Your Toddler’s Dress Shoes?
Did you know that socks play a key role in keeping your kids’ feet healthy?
I am always emphasizing to parents to put socks every time their children wear shoes, especially for toddlers whose feet are still developing.
Socks act as a barrier between your toddler’s feet and the shoes, and they prevent the formation and buildup of bacteria inside the shoes.
Socks will also cushion your kids’ feet and prevent the shoes from rubbing against your toddler’s feet (this can lead to blisters and other foot issues).
While I can’t get into too much detail about the importance of wearing socks in this article, I wrote another post where I describe the best socks for kids, and you can find that article here:
The socks that I describe in that article are seamless and breathable! Seamless socks are great, specially for those toddlers who feel every bump and lump in the socks.
