Have you been looking for a pair of wide or extra wide summer sandals for your child, but you always end up empty handed and you can’t seem to find them anywhere?
Summer time is around the corner, and it’s time to start thinking about the type of summer shoes that you will provide for your child. However, if your child has wide or extra wide feet, the choices narrow considerably, since there is only a small selection of summer sandals that will fit the shape of a child with wide or extra wide feet.
If you provide your children with a pair of summer sandals that are too narrow, you will end up creating all sort of issues to their feet such as blisters, calluses, and corns.
The good news is that I know which summer sandals styles will fit a child with wide or extra wide feet. Not only that, these styles are also supportive, flexible, lightweight, and durable!
I have been working for a specialized children’s shoe store for the last 10 years now, and I handle approximately two hundred fittings/try ons per week. We specialize in fitting shoes for children that have foot problems such as flat feet, knocked knees, or rolled ankles (just to name a few), but but we provide regular shoe fittings as well.
In addition, I have helped several children with wide or extra wide feet find the perfect pair of shoes. We carry every single shoe style that shoe companies manufacture in wide or extra wide widths.
Children who need extra support from their every day footwear also need sturdy, supportive summer sandals to wear in the summer.
Have you ever heard of Keen sandals? Keen sandals are the best sandals for children in terms of support and structure, but they won’t fit a child with wide or extra wide feet
Even though Keen sandals are the most popular summer sandals for children, several parents have asked me if there is something similar to Keen sandals, that will fit a child with wide or extra wide feet.
Stride Rite manufactures a particular summer sandal style for toddlers that is available in wide and extra wide widths. For older kids, there are two shoe brands named named Jambu and Merrell (you probably heard about this shoe brand before), that provide certain styles that will fit the shape of a child with wide or extra wide feet.
Have you ever heard of the shoe brand Jambu? They make water sandals that are sturdy and provide great support, and at the same time fit a child with wide or extra wide feet.
If you want to provide your children with wide or extra wide feet with sandals that have great support and will protect their feet, then you have come to the right place. Let me show you a selection of the best wide sandals for kids!
Wide Sandals For Kids – Stop Pinching Your Kids’ Feet!
Several parents have asked me where they can find summer sandals for their kids’ wide feet. They start complaining about how their kids’ feet look like frying pans and they always end up empty handed.
Most of the time, children’s feet will stretch out as they keep growing, but some children will have extra wide feet for the rest of their lives, so you better start getting familiar with the shoe brands and shoe style that come in wide and extra wide widths.
Wouldn’t it be great to provide your child with a pair of summer sandals that they can run and play all day?
Some of the features that these sandals will provide to your child’s feet are:
- Substantial sole: This feature will minimize the impact that your kids’ feet take every time they come in contact with the ground.
- Lightweight and Flexible: The sandals will be supportive, but lightweight and flexible at the same time to prevent your kids’ feet from easily getting tired.
- Traction: This feature will prevent your child from slipping and falling down, especially when walking on wet surfaces.
- Quick-Dry: These sandals dry super fast, which is a great feature since it will prevent your child from walking around all day with wet feet.
- These sandals will come with a Velcro strap and a toggle shoe lace that will hug your kids’ feet and provide them with more support and stability!
The sandals I will show you below are great sandals for children who are rough on their shoes, since they are practically indestructible. One of the features that parents love the most about these sandals is that they don’t smell like Keen sandals do.
Another great feature of these sandals is that they have a rubber outsole that features deep grooves for superior traction on all type of surface.! However, one of the greatest advantages of Jambu sandals is how they provide the same support as Keen sandals, but they fit the shape of a child with wide or extra wide feet.
Jambu and Merrell Sandals for Kids – Versatility and Durability!
Are you tired of your kids summer sandals falling apart before they are ready to outgrow them? As a parent, when you find a pair of shoes that withstands the abuse of children, you stick with it! You can rest assured that your child will outgrow these sandals before anything happens to them.
Your child can wear these sandals everywhere, and one of the features I love the most is how they dry super fast! Parents love how their kids can go in and out of the water in these sandals while their toes and heels are protected.
These sandals are also recommended for summer camp or going hiking. They are lightweight and constructed with high quality to last an endless summer.
How do Jambu Sandals Fit? – Get it Right!
Most Jambu sandals tend to fit long and wide.
In order for your child to wear the sandals through the whole summer season, you need to provide them growing room. We always want to provide children with 3/8 of an inch between their longest toe and the end of the shoes, which is basically a half a size longer of the size that your child measured in the standard foot measuring tool (the Brannock device).
You also need to consider that most summer and winter shoes are not available in half sizes, and they come in whole sizes only. For example, if your child measures a foot size 6, then you should get him/her a shoe size 7. Another example is if your child measures a size 6 1/2, you should also get him/her a shoe size 7. Remember that sandals are not available in half sizes!
I always recommend parents that take their kids’ to be properly fitted for shoes at their local shoe store, so they can make sure that they provide them with the correct type of shoes and the correct shoe size. However, if you are reading this article chances are that you don’t have a local kids’ shoe store to have your child’s feet properly measured

You will have the peace of mind of knowing that your children are running in sandals that are protecting their feet and offering the support that they need to run around all day.
Many parents don’t even know that these sandals even exist, and they buy longer sandals to compensate for their kids’ wide or extra wide feet. That means they are compromising their kids’ stability by providing them with shoes that are too long. Never buy longer shoes to compensate for the width.

Below you can find a selection of the best wide sandals for older kids:
All of these sandal styles fit “true to size”,which means that you need a half a size longer of the size that your child measures in the standard foot measuring scale (Brannock device), in order to allow for growing room. Please remember that sandals (and most seasonal footwear) don’t come in half sizes, so if your child is “in between sizes” please order the larger size to allow for growing room.
Please keep in mind that only the Merrell sandal styles are labeled as wide or extra wide. Jambu sandals don’t come labeled as wide (“W”), or extra wide (“XW”), they just FIT really wide.
