Fitting Children's Shoes

I review children’s shoes based on my vast experience in fitting children’s shoes for the last 10 years. I currently work for a specialized children’s shoe store that focuses on children with foot and leg problems.

Take a look at the description that describes how each particular boot style fits (short, long) to increase the chances that you order the correct shoe size. As a standard rule of thumb, I recommend 3/16 of an inch or 0.4 centimeters of space between your child’s longest toe and the end of the shoes.

If you are unsure of what your child’s foot size is take a look at an article I created where I describe how to figure out your toddler’s foot size from home:

If you need any other type of shoes such as everyday sneakers, summer sandals, dress shoes, or sport shoes, you can find them all in a tool I created which lets you filter by the type of shoes you need. This tool is extremely effective since it will show you shoes in different widths such as narrow, medium, wide, and extra wide. I also tell you exactly how each shoe style fits (short, long, narrow, or wide) and will let you filter by the instep of your child’s foot. You can even find shoes that will accommodate an orthotic. 1. So much to ask you. My 9 year old granddaughter has CMT. Her Mother is currently not insured. You do orthotics and shoe fittings? Where are you? Do you know any reasonable Dallas Texas area stores and orthotic makers in that area. Willing to go 100 miles or more for help. She is the love of my life and I want to help her as much as I can. The orthotics you had pictured, approximate cost? Very sorry to ask so many questions but I’m sure you understand

    1. Hi Judith,

I recommend orthotics and shoe fittings based on the child’s foot shape and foot condition.

I am located in Bethesda, Maryland.

I created a map of the United States with the best fitting shoe stores organized by state:

The Best Kids’ Shoe Stores In The United States – Where To Go For Proper Fittings

The orthotics I recommend range from $30 to $90.

I will help you figure out what shoes your daughter needs and I also will able to tell which specific orthotic your daughter can benefit from wearing. I suggest that you start by following the instructions in the article below and once you have that information ready I will be able to recommend specific shoes and orthotics. Please email the images and the measurements along with anything else I should know about your granddaughters’ foot condition.
