Robeez Baby Shoes – Shoes or No Shoes?

Have you been looking for a pair of Robeez shoes for your baby? Do you know what Robeez shoes are and what their main purpose is? Robeez are a leather covering for a baby’s foot. The covering allows babies to feel the floor with their toes through the leather sole, helping them gain their balance. When children start to learn how to walk and stand, they use their toes to get their balance. Robeez shoes carry the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) seal of approval and are recommended by most pediatricians.

Most pediatricians and shoe fitters recommend having your child walk barefoot or with a pair of Robeez inside the house. This is the best thing you can do to promote healthy foot and leg development. Using a pair of Robeez is the closest thing to being barefoot, since your baby will still be able to feel the floor.

Certain Robeez styles are better for your babies’ feet in terms of comfort, quality, and fit.

Did you know that Robeez baby shoes are one of the most popular pre-walker shoes in the market? I want to clarify that Robeez are great shoes for pre-walkers. When a baby starts walking, it is time to provide them with a more substantial shoe.

I will show you a selection of the best Robeez baby shoes that I have fitted before, but let’s first find out when is the right time for a baby to start wearing a pair of Robeez.

When is the Right Time to Start Wearing Robeez? – Let’s Find Out!

There is a common question among parents when it comes to baby shoes: Are firm, semi-flexible or soft-flexible shoes best for my baby?

Physical therapists and pediatricians tend to agree that soft sole shoes are most appropriate for babies in their first few years of life. Flexibility is the most important feature of the shoe when babies are developing their arch and don’t have the strength to bend a harder sole.

If babies are not walking on their own, they should wear Robeez or go barefoot. Robeez imitates bare feet by supporting, not restricting, tiny growing feet. The foot needs to be unrestricted so it can function properly.

Robeez are soft, flexible soled shoes, which is exactly what your babies need when they are crawling and learning how to walk. Keep in mind that babies, unlike older children, lack the body weight and step-thrust power to bend a firmer sole. Hence, the importance of a lightweight, flexible shoe.

Since babies’ feet tend to sweat a lot, several parents at the shoe store I work for have asked me if shoes should be machine washable at this stage. A baby shoe needs to be breathable, not necessarily washable. Leather baby shoes are best, as leather is breathable and durable.

Should Robeez be Worn Inside or Outside The House?- Inside Only

Robeez states that their shoes are appropriate not only for cruising inside the house, but also for outdoor activities. I strongly disagree with that statement since the sole only has a single layer of leather that will not offer enough foot protection for your baby when walking on asphalt, small pebbles, mulch, sticks, or other types of objects.

If your baby is going to be crawling outside the house, then you must provide him/her with a lightweight and flexible shoe that has a thicker outsole. The shoe should be flexible enough for your babies to be able to bend the sole with every step that they take.

If your baby is going to be outside, but in the stroller, then Robeez are great because they will keep his/her feet warm.

I wrote an article where I describe the best first walking shoes for children.

Should Robeez Come with Grippers On the Bottom?

Yes! Grippers will help your baby feel more stable when walking on hardwood or tile floors. A non-skid bottom may cause your baby to stop short and fall forward, while a smooth sole will slide and cause the baby to slip and fall backward. The suede outsole also prevents slipping!

Important Tip: As soon as your baby starts learning how to walk and is wearing shoes, don’t provide him/her with socks that come with grippers on the bottom. The reason why is that the grippers will stick to the bottom of the shoe and prevent your baby from wiggling his/her toes.

Have you noticed how babies tend to move and wiggle their toes a lot? This is their way of strengthening their feet.

That is why it’s so important that the shoes and the socks don’t restrict toe movement. Socks play a huge role in keeping your babies’ feet healthy.

Providing your babies with the correct sock size has the same importance as providing them with the correct shoe size. Did you know that seamless socks are the best kind for growing babies?

How to Figure Out What Robeez Size Your Baby Needs?

This season, the Robeez leather shoe assortment has expanded. They come in sizes by month. Remember that is important for the shoe to be fitted with ample room to allow for the free movement of the foot and the toes inside the shoe.

It is always hard to buy shoes based on the age of the child since your babies’ feet could be larger or smaller than the average babies. That is the main reason why I always recommend going to your local children’s shoe store to measure your babies’ feet. However, if you don’t have a shoe store that you trust in your area, Robeez developed an easy-to-use Foot Sizing Chart which is explained below.

Robeez-size

When parents bring their babies to the store to have their feet measured for a pair of Robeez, they always seem to ask the same question: Are my babies’ feet flat? They might appear to be flat because most babies have a fat pad for protection, where the arch area is, on the foot.

Children’s arches start to develop around 18 months of age. To allow your baby’s feet to develop as naturally as possible, do not put shoes on the baby until they can stand and balance on their own to take a few steps around the house. Barefoot is best for the first year of life.

The Best Robeez Baby Shoes

These are the Robeez styles that are better made and provide a more comfortable fit (they allow for extra room around your babies’ toes). If you can’t seem to find any that you like, I wrote a more detailed review:

Your child’s foot development is extremely important, especially at an early age. You can trust Robeez shoes to not only be fashion oriented, but appropriate for your baby’s healthy foot development!

My Baby Keeps Trying to Take the Shoes Off! – What is Going On?

This usually happens when the shoes are either too small or too big. It can also be that your babies are not happy with the idea of having something on their feet. Most of the time I fit a baby for their first pair of walking shoes, they immediately try to pull them off either with their hands or with their feet. This is totally normal. Oh, and they will scream too!

Parents always seem to struggle when it comes to their babies keeping their shoes on. The good news is that Robeez are easy to put on and have elastic at the ankle so the child can’t get them off easily. The elasticized ankle cord keeps them on no matter how much your little one tries to pull them off!

I have heard from several different parents how their baby was kicking off their booties or socks and this stopped as soon as they tried a pair of Robeez on their baby’s feet!

Is your baby starting to stand and trying to take his or her first steps? Are you thinking of providing them with a pair of Robeez? Please share your thoughts and experiences so other parents can benefit from them. I will continue to post informative articles penned by me that address important topics such as this one.
