Best White School Shoes for Kids: All-White and Easy to Clean (2026)
School Shoes · Written by Juan Valenzuela, Certified Children’s Shoe Fitter · Updated June 2026
All-white school shoes are required by more schools than most parents realize — particularly in the southern United States, in Catholic schools where white is part of certain uniform combinations, and in international schools following British dress code traditions. The challenge isn’t just finding a solid white shoe in the right style. It’s finding one that fits correctly, holds up through a school year of daily wear, and doesn’t look grey by October.
Below I’ll cover the seven styles I recommend across every foot width, organized by school requirement type — and I’ll share the only cleaning method that actually keeps white school shoes white through a full academic year.
What Does Your School’s Policy Actually Require?
White school shoe policies vary as much as black ones. Before ordering, confirm:
Solid white only: Some schools require all-white with no color accents — no grey soles, no colored logos. The Tsukihoshi styles and Asics Contend 8 are the cleanest all-white options on this list. New Balance styles have a grey or colored “N” logo — confirm your school accepts this before ordering.
Leather or leather-look: Some schools require white leather specifically. The 574 and Fresh Foam 650v1 by New Balance and the Breaknet by Adidas all have leather or leather-look uppers. The Tsukihoshi styles have mesh uppers — confirm these are acceptable before ordering.
Closure type: Some schools require Velcro for younger grades; others require laces. I’ve noted the closure type under each listing.
The White Shoe Problem Nobody Warns You About
White school shoes are the hardest shoe color to maintain. A black shoe that gets scuffed still looks presentable. A white shoe that gets scuffed looks neglected — and some schools conduct uniform inspections where scuffed white shoes result in notes home.
The good news: keeping white shoes genuinely white through a school year is achievable with the right routine. The bad news: most parents don’t know the routine until halfway through the year when the shoes have already turned grey.
The cleaning method that works: Apply a thin layer of white shoe polish or white leather paint (for leather styles) after every washing, not just when visible scuffs appear. This fills in micro-abrasions that accumulate from daily wear and prevent the grey oxidation that makes white shoes look dirty even after cleaning. For mesh styles, a white sneaker cleaner applied with a soft brush weekly removes surface dirt before it embeds into the fabric.
For leather and leather-look styles: White shoe polish applied with a soft cloth after every second wearing. Mr. White Shoe Polish (available at most shoe stores) or Angelus White Leather Paint for persistent scuffs.
For mesh and fabric uppers: Jason Markk Shoe Cleaner or Crep Protect Cure applied with a soft-bristle brush weekly. Machine washing is acceptable for Tsukihoshi styles — inside a mesh laundry bag, cold water, air dry only.
A Note on Narrow Feet in White School Shoes
Jan, one of our readers, asked in 2022 about white shoes for a girl with narrow feet who can tie laces. And Maglardi asked for non-New Balance options beyond the standard recommendations. Both are common gaps.
For narrow feet with laces: The Asics Contend 8 is the strongest narrow-fitting white lace-up on this list. The Stride Rite Cooper (not listed below but worth checking — 100% leather, white, available in wide widths) is a good alternative if the Asics runs too snug.
For non-New Balance options: The Tsukihoshi styles (Charge BTS and Rally) are excellent alternatives from a Japanese brand with strong quality control — less widely known than New Balance but consistently well-reviewed for children’s school wear. The Breaknet by Adidas is the third non-NB option that meets most solid-white requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Only if your school’s policy specifically says leather. Most schools that require “white shoes” accept mesh, fabric, or synthetic leather as long as the shoe is solid white. The 574 by New Balance has a genuine leather upper and is the strongest option if genuine leather is required.
For leather and leather-look styles: apply white shoe polish after every second wearing, not just when visibly scuffed. For mesh styles: use a sneaker cleaner with a soft brush weekly, and machine wash the Tsukihoshi styles inside a laundry bag monthly. Consistent maintenance prevents the grey oxidation that makes white shoes look dirty even after washing.
Yes — both the Charge BTS and Rally are machine washable. Use a mesh laundry bag, cold water cycle, and air dry flat. Don’t put them in the dryer — the heat can warp the sole and shrink the upper.
Would this NB work for a narrow foot? My daughter who wears a size 2.5 and and can tie laces, needs an all white sneaker for school. Any recommendations? Thanks
Hello Jan,
It might work, but there is a different white shoe that I recommend for children with narrow feet: Stride Rite Cooper
I also suggest that you apply this shoe lacing technique: How to Tie Shoes for Kids with Narrow Feet – Make their Shoes Fit and Feel Better!
Is there any other beands recommendations that NB. Could you do a list with other brands ?
Hello Maglardi,
You can also look into a Stride Rite shoe called “Cooper” that is also an all white shoe made out of 100% leather and it’s available in medium, wide, and extra wide widths. However, I know their inventory is low at the moment.
