Waterproof Boots for Kids with Narrow Feet – Narrow Heel Counters and Narrow Toe-Boxes!

Have you been wasting a lot of time and money looking for a pair of waterproof boots for your kids with narrow feet? Do you feel like you have tried several different shoe brands and shoe styles but they are all too wide for your kids’ feet? I have put together a selection of the best waterproof boots for kids with narrow feet, and I will show you these boots shortly.

I understand how frustrating it can be to find a good pair of waterproof boots for a child with narrow feet. Unfortunately, shoe companies don’t manufacture any waterproof kids boots in narrow widths (N), so the only way to find a pair that fits is by having fitted that boot before.

You are in good hands because I have been fitting children’s shoes for the last 10 years, working for a specialized children’s shoe store that focuses in children with “complicated” foot shapes. This experience has helped me get familiar with the best shoe brands for kids with narrow feet and the best styles among those brands.

For the last 5 years, I have dedicated myself to helping parents find the perfect pair of shoes for their kids online.

I get contacted by parents from all over the world who want to know if waterproof boots for kids with narrow feet actually exist. Several families had the same question, so I decided to create this article to showcase the best waterproof boots for kids with narrow feet.

Keep in mind that if you provide your child with boots that are too wide, your child might end up developing all different sorts of foot issues that range from blisters, calluses, and corns to general foot and leg pain.

What Makes the Boots I Recommend Effective for Narrow Feet?

The boots I recommend provide 2 key features:

✅ Narrow Heel Counter

✅ Narrow Toe-Box

Take a look at the images to visualize the difference between a boot with a narrow heel counter and a narrow toe-box versus a boot with a wide heel counter and a round toe-box. These boots are the same length and width. Do you notice how the boot on the right is a lot narrower than the boot on the left?

Finding Boots for Kids with Narrow Feet – 1st Step!

The first step is to make sure that your child actually has narrow feet. You might be thinking that your child has narrow feet when in fact he/she might only have narrow heels. Are you wondering if your child has narrow feet or not? I can tell by just looking at the shape of your child’s feet, so please feel free to send me pictures of your child’s feet here: fittingchildrensshoes@gmail.com

Another way to tell if your child has narrow feet is to put the boots on and check if there is extra space around your child’s heels or if there is too much extra material in the front of the boots. Take a look at the images below for clarification purposes:

Do you know what happens when a child wears boots that are too wide? The extra space inside the boots allows for too much foot movement inside the boots, and that constant movement and friction between the feet and the shoes leads to the foot issues mentioned above.

In addition to fitting the shape of your child’s narrow feet perfectly, your kids’ boots must provide these 5 important features:

✅ Waterproof: This feature is going to prevent your child’s feet from getting wet. Please note that if the boot doesn’t come with a label that reads “waterproof”, then it’s because it isn’t. Take a look at the image below for clarification purposes:

✅ Supportive: The boots need to be supportive to reduce the impact that your kids’ feet and legs take when they come in contact with the ground.

✅ Lightweight and Flexible: This feature is going to prevent your kids’ feet and legs from easily getting tired.

✅ Good Traction: This feature is going to prevent your child slipping and falling, especially when walking on wet surfaces.

✅ Breathable: Waterproof boots can still be breathable. It’s important for your kids’ shoes to always be breathable to prevent the formation and buildup of bacteria inside the shoes.

All of these 5 features are provided in the boots that I describe below. However, please note that if you don’t provide your child with the correct boot size then you are going to defeat the whole purpose of getting a pair of narrow and waterproof boots.

I created an article along with a video that helps parents figure out their kids’ foot size from home. This is going to help you save time and money, as you won’t have to keep returning the shoes back and forth. If you are unsure of your child’s exact foot size, then please refer to the article below:

If you already know your child’s foot size, then let’s take a look at the best waterproof boots for kids with narrow feet.

I only review shoes that I have fitted before since that is the only way for me to tell the quality of the shoes and how they fit.

To allow for growing room, I highly recommend that parents order these shoes half a size larger than their child’s current foot size. This translates to 0.3 inches or 0.7 centimeters of space between your child’s longest toe and the end of the shoes.

Please note that the boots that come with shoelaces are always going to be more effective in fitting the shape of a child with narrow feet. The main reason for this is that the shoelaces are more effective in “hugging” the child’s feet and making the boots fit better. Shoelaces are also more effective in preventing heel slippage. I actually found a particular shoe-tying technique that works great for kids with narrow feet:

✅ 1st Step: Start by leaving the two top holes of the boots open:

✅ 2nd Step: Go through the top hole of the boots first:

✅ 3rd Step: Go through the holes of the boots that you left open:

You are all done! If you want to have a more detailed description of how to tie shoes for kids with narrow feet please refer to the article below:

If any of these boot styles still feels too wide on your child’s feet, don’t jump the gun and return them just yet. These 4 styles are the narrowest that I have fitted before, and I am not sure that there is another boot style on the market that is going to fit the shape of your child’s narrow feet better. With that said, there is a particular method that you can try that is going to help make the boots fit and feel better.

Have you ever heard of tongue pads? They are adhesive-backed pads that if placed correctly in the tongue of the shoes they are effective in pushing the child’s heels back and secure them against the back of the boots. This helps fill any remaining gap inside the boots and prevents heel slippage.

I explain how tongue pads work in another article that I believe you are going to find extremely helpful not just for your kids’ boots, but for your kids’ everyday footwear as well:

6 Comments on Waterproof Boots for Kids with Narrow Feet – Narrow Heel Counters and Narrow Toe-Boxes!

  1. Hi Juan Carlos,
I’m looking for some waterproof, mid-height hiking boots for my very narrow-footed, high-arched daughter. She wears a size 1 / Euro 31. She likes a super-snug fit, and velcro just won’t do it; we need laces, which means that Naturino (which we’ve loved in the past) doesn’t work. I’ve also tried the Keen Terradora, but that was rejected — too wide. Any suggestions?

    Happy New Year!

  2. Hi Juan Carlos,
    Happy New Year!
I’m hoping that you can help me find some waterproof hiking-ish boots for my 5 year old daughter (US size 1 / euro 31). She has very narrow feet and a high instep, and likes her shoes to fit very snugly. Velcro doesn’t cinch down tightly enough, which means that most Naturino boots aren’t possibilities, and we’ve tried Keen Terradora boots, which my narrow-footed son likes, but my girl thought were too floppy. Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

  3. So sorry! I didn’t see your response, and figured that there had been a glitch in the system. The Vasque boot seems to have been discontinued, and is no longer available. Sigh. Any other suggestions?

    Thank you so very much.
