Best Light Up Shoes for Toddlers with Wide Feet – Extra Deep, Rounder Toe-Boxes, and Available in Wide Widths!

Have you been looking for a pair of light up shoes that are capable of fitting your toddler’s wide feet? Do you feel like every single light up shoe that you try on your toddler’s feet seems too narrow? There is only a small selection of light up shoes capable of fitting toddlers with wide feet. The good news is that I know which are the best light up shoes for toddlers with wide feet from having fitted them before.

Most toddlers don’t alert their parents when their shoes feel too tight or uncomfortable. This means that parents need to make sure that the shoes are fitting correctly if they want to prevent foot issues such as blisters, calluses, and corns. It only takes a couple of wears in the wrong shoe size for your toddler to develop a foot issue.

Do Most Toddlers Have Wide Feet?

I have noticed that most toddlers who come to the shoe store to be fitted for shoes have wide or extra wide feet. Some of them might still be carrying some baby fat which starts going away as they keep growing. This means that your toddler’s feet might not always be wide, but this depends on each toddler’s individual foot anatomy.

Shoes that are too narrow can create a myriad of issues for your toddler’s feet, so let’s make sure that you provide your toddler with a pair of light up shoes that are wide enough for his or her feet.

What Makes the Light Up Shoes I Recommend Effective for Wide Feet?

In addition to being available in wide widths (W), the light up shoes I recommend provide 2 other key features that make them the most effective ones for toddlers with wide feet.

1️⃣ Rounder Toe-Boxes: The light up shoes I recommend come with rounder toe-boxes instead of pointier ones. This means that they allow for enough space for your toddler’s toes to freely move and prevents them from overlapping and rubbing against one another or the side of the shoes. Let me show you the difference in toe-boxes between a pair of the light shoes I recommend and a different style. Do you notice how the light up shoe on the right has a rounder toe-box compared to the light up shoe on the left?

2️⃣ Extra Depth: This is a feature that often goes unnoticed by most parents. However, it is one of the most important features that your kids’ shoes must provide if they have wide feet. Shoes with extra depth allow the child’s feet to fit deeply inside of the shoes, and prevent the top part of the feet (instep) from rubbing against the top part of the shoes. Let me show you the difference in depth between one of the light up shoes I recommend and a different style. Do you notice how the shoe on the right is a lot deeper compared to the shoe on the left?

Is It Safe for Toddlers to Wear Light Up Shoes?

Absolutely, as long as they provide the correct amount of support and they are fitted correctly. In addition, not all light up shoes are safe for your toddler to wear. Some of them are too bulky, rigid, and heavy, which makes it harder for toddlers to walk comfortably.

Even if your toddler is already walking and running confidently, shoes that are too heavy and bulky can make your toddler’s feet and legs easily tired.

In addition to being able to accommodate a wide foot, the light up shoes I recommend are supportive but lightweight and flexible at the same time.

Most parents assume that toddlers don’t need a lot of support from their shoes as they want their feet to develop naturally. It is true that toddlers don’t need shoes that provide too much support, but the shoes do need to come with a substantial outsole to minimize the impact that their feet take when they come in contact with the ground. As I mentioned before, the shoes need to be lightweight and flexible at the same time.

Before I show you a selection of the best light up shoes for toddlers with wide feet I want to make sure that you know your toddler’s exact foot size.  Remember that your toddler’s shoes can’t be too short, too long, too narrow, or too wide, they must fit just right. You won’t be able to order the correct shoe size online if you don’t know your toddler’s foot length.

Are You 100% Sure You Know Your Toddler’s Foot Size?

I created a different article to assist parents in determining their toddler’s foot size at home effectively and with ease. That article will help you determine your child’s exact foot length, whether your toddler has wide or extra wide feet, and also whether your toddler has a high instep or not.

Now that you know your toddler’s foot size let’s take a look at a selection of the best light up shoes for toddlers with wide feet.

I have noticed throughout the years how most toddlers tend to have wide or extra wide feet. While this makes it more challenging to find shoes that fit, is important that you always make sure that your toddler is wearing shoes that are wide enough for his or her feet.

Toddlers like to wiggle their toes as a way of exercising their feet. It’s important that you don’t constrict their toe movement by fitting them in shoes that are too narrow.

What Are Good Socks for Toddlers with Wide Feet?

I suggest that you look for socks that are seamless and breathable. Socks that are free of seams allow toddlers to move their toes comfortably without feeling constricted by the socks.

It’s also important for your toddler’s socks to be breathable. Sweaty feet can make your toddler more prone to getting fungus, so I recommend parents check their toddler’s socks regularly to make sure that they don’t feel damp.

How to Tell if Your Toddler’s Shoes are Too Narrow?

I can easily tell when a child is wearing shoes that are too narrow by simply looking at how the shoes are fitting on their feet.

To help parents check this from home, they need to look at the widest part of the foot, and make sure that the small toe (pinky toe) is not being pressed against the side of the shoes. If you notice a bump right around this area of the shoe then it means that your toddler’s shoes are too narrow. Take a look at the images below for clarification:

Another sign that your toddler’s shoes might be too narrow is if you always have a hard time getting the shoes on and off.
