The Challenges of Finding Snow Boots in a Big Kid Size 7
I have been fitting shoes for children from their first steps to their teenage years. Throughout the years I noticed that most children’s snow boots stop at a big kid size 6, so if your child wears a shoe size bigger than a size 6 then it can be hard to find the correct size. Most parents are confused as to whether they need to buy adult shoe sizes or if there are actual big kid snow boots in a size 7.
The answer is that there are kids’ snow boots available in a size 7, but before I show you the list, let’s make sure that you know your child’s foot shape.
You Must Know Your Child’s Foot Shape As Well
Do you know whether your child has narrow, medium, wide, or extra wide feet? Do you know if your child has a high instep? These are all factors that help determine what shoes your child should wear.
I created a great resource (free of charge) that helps families retrieve their child’s exact foot length and shape from home. This resource also helps identify foot conditions such as flat feet:
How to Measure Your Kids’ Foot – 2 Simple Steps to Determine Foot Length and Foot Width
Don’t assume that your child’s feet are a certain shape simply because that’s the same size you have always bought. Your child’s foot shape might change with time, so make sure that you check your child’s feet on a regular basis.

What Socks Should Your Child Wear with His/Her Snow Boots?
One common question that parents ask me is whether their children should wear warm socks with their snow boots or if they can simply wear regular socks since the boots already provide insulation and warmth.
I suggest wearing socks made of fabrics that are warm and breathable such as merino wool, but regular socks will work just fine with the snow boots I recommended above.
The most common mistake that I see parents make is to assume that thicker socks automatically translate into warmer socks. Thicker socks might lead to your child’s feet sweating excessively inside the boots and making your child’s feet damp. Thick socks can also cut off circulation to the toes as they tend to put more pressure on the foot.
The type of material that you want to start getting familiar with is Merino wool. If you provide your child with a pair of socks made of Merino wool, you will keep your kids’ feet warm and comfortable during the winter season. In other words, you won’t have to worry about your child’s feet getting cold or sweating excessively.
