How Do Kids’ Keen Sandals Fit? – Let’s Compare the 5 Most Popular Styles!

Keen sandals are the go-to choice for parents looking for versatile, durable, and supportive footwear for their kids during the summer. Parents often ask about the fit—do Keen sandals run big or small? Should they size up for growing room? Whether your child has narrow, medium, wide, or extra-wide feet, I’ll provide all the details to help you choose the perfect size for your little one.
Avoid This Common Mistake: Choose the Right Pair of Keen Sandals
A common mistake parents make is assuming that all Keen sandals fit the same way. In reality, there are several different styles, each with its own unique fit. Some models are perfect for kids with narrow feet, while others are designed to accommodate wide or extra-wide feet. Understanding the differences in fit is key to choosing the right pair for your child’s needs.
How Do Keen Sandals Fit? – Keen Kids Sizing
Let’s explore how each Keen sandal style fits to help you choose the perfect pair and keep your kids’ feet happy and healthy!
1. KEEN Newport
The Newport H2 is arguably Keen’s most iconic style. This sandal fits true to size for most children, so I recommend sizing up by half a size to give your child the right amount of growing room. If summer is just beginning in your area, consider going up a full size to ensure they last through the entire season.

This model has a slightly wider fit that accommodates medium to wide feet, as well as high insteps. This ensures a comfortable fit for a broad range of foot shapes, which is particularly beneficial for children with wider feet who may struggle to find suitable footwear.
2. KEEN Seacamp
The Seacamp II CNX is a lightweight alternative to the Newport H2. Runs slightly smaller, so consider sizing up a full shoe size to allow for the correct amount of growing room.

This model is perfect for kids with narrow or medium foot shapes, offering a snug and supportive fit.
3. KEEN Elle
The Elle by KEEN is an excellent choice for kids who crave a more grown-up style. For the best fit, I recommend sizing up by a full size from your child’s current foot size.

The stretchy straps accommodate various foot shapes such as medium and wide feet.
4. KEEN Motozoa
The Motozoa is a newer style that combines a modern look with the classic Keen functionality. I suggest getting this sandal a whole size larger than your child’s current foot size.

Known for its wide fit, the Motozoa is suitable for children with wider feet who need extra space.
5. KEEN Moxie
Designed with a feminine touch, the Moxie sandal is perfect for girls seeking both style and function.I suggest ordering this sandal a whole size larger than your child’s current foot size to provide the correct amount of growing room.

This model is the perfect choice for children with narrow or medium feet, providing a comfortable and secure fit!

Should I get the Moxie or the Seacamp for my child who has narrow feet? Thank you in advance for creating this resource.
Go for the Moxie, it’s narrower than the Seacamp.
My son’s longest foot measures a toddler shoe size 9 on the Brannock device. What size should I get in the Keen Newport? He has a wide foot.
Hello Melisa,
I suggest the shoe size 10, especially if you are in the beginning of the summer season. This will allow the correct amount of growing room and the Keen Newport works best for kids with wide feet.
Thank you Juan, this is very helpful!
The Newports in Little Kids are hard to put on but fit great. Are any easier to get kids feet into? Loved the Newport for toddlers!
Hello Erin,
I am glad that your toddler is enjoying the Keen Newports! If you are looking for an easier on and off shoe, I suggest this specific model: Keen Knotch Creek
Just wondering why some of the Keen links are not working?
Hello Emma,
There was a problem with the images not displaying correctly, but I believe it has been fixed. Please refresh your browser.
Hi,
My son has extra wide feet and has been wearing the Keen Newport H2 since he learnt to walk and has progressed through sizes 5-7. He has just turned 2 and needs to move to size 8 but I’ve noticed the size 8 has a much thicker sole and is considerably heavier than his size 7, meaning the sole is less flexible than the size 7. Is this normal or anything to be concerned about? He just seems a little ‘clompy’ running around in the new size 8’s.
Thank you!
Hello Emma,
That’s a great observation. The outsole of the Keen Newport is thicker starting at a size 8 because at that stage most children are walking more confidently and stable. Wit that said, if you notice that your son is having a hard time adjusting to the thicker outsole, you can always look for a different sandal that might be more lightweight and flexible. I do suggest giving your son some time to adjust to the new Newport style. If he doesn’t, I suggest that you take a look at this resource:
Extra Wide Sandals for Boys – They Do Exist!
Can you tell me how the Closed toe Little Kids’ Knotch Creek Sandal compares to the Newport H2, Including comparison of width? Thanks,
Pam
Hello Pam,
They are very similar. The main differences are that the Keen Newport fits a little wider and provides better support. The Knotch Creek is more lightweight and the holes along the side of the sandal are not as wide as the ones in the Newport.
Thanks for your help
