Are you having a hard time finding a pair of narrow loafer shoes for your child? Do you feel like every style that you try on the shoes it is too wide on the front and gaps too much around your kid’s’ ankles?
Working parents! What sounds worse: Shopping for your dress shoes or shopping for your child’s dress shoes with narrow feet?
Finding a pair of narrow loafers for your child can be a frustrating and time-consuming experience if you don’t know what shoe brands or shoe styles to look for. Most shoe companies are not making dress shoes for kids in narrow widths anymore, but there is one shoe company that still does.
Unfortunately there is only one loafer shoe style available in narrow widths, but the good news is that I will help you find it. I have fitted this shoe style before and I can tell you that it has even worked for the narrowest feet out there.
I have been working for a specialized children’s shoe store for over 10 years now, and I know everything that relates to children’s shoes and the way they fit. This is a specialized shoe store that focuses on children with foot and leg problems, but we provide regular shoe fittings as well. I am familiar with the best shoe brands for children with narrow feet and the best shoe styles among those brands, from actually having fitted the shoes before.
For the last 3 years, I have dedicated myself to helping parents find the perfect pair of shoes for their children online.
Providing your child with a pair of shoes that are too wide will lead to several foot issues and some of the most common areas blisters, calluses, and corns.
I am always emphasizing one thing to parents: It doesn’t matter how narrow or wide your kids’ feet are, there is always at least one particular shoe style out there that will fit the shape of your child’s feet perfectly, and I will help you find it. This applies to loafers for kids with narrow feet. There is actually only one style that comes in narrow widths, and I know it will fit a child with narrow feet because I have fitted it before.
Besides coming in narrow widths, this loafer shoe style is made out of 100% leather, comes with a firm heel counter, is durable and provides good traction.
Did I forget to mention stylish too? I am not a fashion expert when it comes to shoes, but many parents have said that this shoe style looks classic and stylish. Parents love how versatile this shoe style is since it goes with all kinds of casual and dressy styles. I will discuss all the features that this shoe style provides in more detail shortly.
Please keep in mind that I don’t recommend children running around and playing in loafers, since they don’t come with any type of closure (shoelaces or Velcro), meaning that they won’t provide much stability to your child.
While dress shoes are only meant to be worn for a couple of hours and every once in a while, it’s important that they fit the shape of your kids’ feet correctly, since it only takes a couple wears for your child to develop foot issues.
I will show you the only loafer shoe styles available for kids with narrow feet shortly, let me first show you how you can figure out your child’s foot size from home and the features that this shoe style will provide to your child’s feet.
Loafers Dress Shoes for Kids – The 5 Most Important Features !
Besides fitting the shape of your children’s narrow feet perfectly, the loafers that you choose for your child must provide the following features:
- Support: Even though your child will wear these shoes for a couple of hours and once in a while, it’s important for the dress to provide support so your child can run and play comfortably.
- Lightweight and Flexible: While we want the shoes to be supportive, we also need them to be lightweight and flexible at the same time. This will prevent your child’s feet and legs from easily getting tired.
- Durable: If you want your child to wear his or her loafers dress on a regular basis, it’s important for the shoes to be durable so your child can outgrow the shoes before they get destroyed.
- Leather: This shoe style is 100% made out of leather, which is the best type of material kids can wear since it’s soft and molds to the shape of your child’s feet.
- Made in America: This shoe style is made from excellent quality materials.
These are the 5 most important features that this shoe style will provide to your child’s feet.
I am always emphasizing to parents that it doesn’t matter how many features a particular shoe style provides, if the shoes are not fitted properly, your child won’t get any of the benefits that the shoes have to offer.
Which brings me to this question: Are you 100% sure that you know your child’s exact foot size?
Let’s find out!
Are You 100% Sure of Your Child’s Foot Size? – Get it Right!
I always recommend parents to take their children to their local children’s shoe store that they trust, the issue is that most stores have been closing down and parents need to end up buying their kids’ shoes online. In order to buy your kids’ shoes online you must know your child’s exact foot size, otherwise you will end up wasting a lot of time returning the shoes.

Please keep in mind that I only write reviews of shoe styles that I have fitted before, otherwise I wouldn’t know how well-made they are, the amount of support that they provide, and how they fit.
The only shoe company that still makes dress shoes in narrow widths is called Sperry. The shoe style that I will describe below will not only fit a child with narrow or medium width feet, but it’s also made from high-quality leather which will mold to the shape of your kids’ feet.
Here you can find a selection of the only loafer style available for children with narrow feet, and please don’t forget to choose the narrow width option (“N”).
This shoe style is gender neutral.
Keep in mind that this shoe style fits “true to size”, but I recommend you buying the same size that your child measures in the standard foot measuring scale (Brannock device). Since loafers don’t come with any type of closure (shoelaces or Velcro), you can’t leave as much growing room as you would in other type of shoes. This type of shoe style requires a “heel-to-toe fit” or the shoe will slip off your child’s feet.
It can be really hard to figure out your child’s correct loafer size, so I recommend you buying 2 to 3 different sizes and keeping the one that fits. The good news is that the link I provided you with will take you to Amazon which allows for free returns.
If this shoe style is still too wide for your child’s feet, I recommend inserting a pair of tongue pads inside the shoes. Do you know what a tongue pad is? A tongue pad is a self-adhesive backed pad that goes in the tongue of the shoes and works in all enclosed shoes.
Tongue pads are extremely effective especially for children with narrow feet, since they will push your kids’ heels back, protecting and securing them against the back of the shoes. This will fill any remaining gap inside the shoes and prevent your child’s heels from moving up and down.
You can see a selection of the best tongue pads and how to fit them in shoes in another article I wrote called:

Dress Socks for Kids with Narrow Feet – Seamless and Breathable!
Did you know that socks play a key role in keeping your kids’ feet healthy? They act as a barrier between your kids’ feet and the shoes, preventing the buildup of bacteria inside the shoes and the formation of blisters.
You might be thinking, that’s great, but my kids refuse to wear socks with their shoes because they feel every bump and lump. I have good news for you, there are certain type of socks that are seamless and made from very soft, comfortable materials.
Dress socks are important because the material that most dress shoes are made is harder than your kids’ regular sneakers. The socks will also help fill any remaining gap around your kids’ shoes.
