Leather Shoe Tongue Pads – Stop Heel Slippage

Struggling to find shoes that fit your child’s narrow feet? Many parents face challenges like poor fit and heel slippage—even after trying multiple styles. The good news? Leather shoe tongue pads can significantly improve the fit, especially for kids with narrow feet. These simple inserts help fill extra space inside the shoe, offering better support, comfort, and stability. Based on my experience as a shoe fitter, I’ve found specific tongue pads that work exceptionally well for creating a snug, secure fit.

What Are Tongue Pads?

Tongue pads are adhesive-backed inserts placed inside the tongue of enclosed shoes—and they’re a game-changer for kids with narrow feet. These small but mighty pads add extra cushioning and help fill in any excess space, creating a snugger, more secure fit. They’re an easy, effective way to keep shoes from slipping and improve overall comfort with every step.

The Benefits of Tongue Pads – Small Fix, Big Comfort!

Tongue pads are a simple yet powerful solution to improve your child’s shoe fit. Here’s why they’re a game-changer:

✔️ Quick and easy to apply—just a few seconds and you’re done!
✔️ Versatile enough to work in most types of shoes.
✔️ Prevent heel slippage for a more secure step.
✔️ Stop feet from sliding forward inside the shoe.
✔️ Relieve pressure and discomfort caused by tight shoe creases.

Who Can Benefit the Most from Wearing Tongue Pads?

Tongue pads are particularly beneficial for children with narrow feet, who often experience issues with heel slippage, where the foot slides out of the shoe while walking.

After over 10 years of fitting children’s shoes, I’ve seen firsthand how limited the options are for kids with narrow feet—most brands don’t even offer narrow widths. That’s why I often recommend using tongue pads. They add gentle pressure on the instep, helping to secure the heel and fill extra space for a snug, comfortable fit. It’s a simple, effective fix for a common problem.

How to Fit Tongue Pads in Shoes? – Easy Steps!

Fitting a tongue pad in a shoe is quite simple since they are self-adhesive and can be easily placed on the tongue of the shoe.

First Step: Position the Pad. Place the tongue pad on the inside of the shoe tongue, aligning it with the top edge. I always place the wider end closer to the opening of the shoe, that is the correct way of doing it!

Here’s a close-up image showing the wider end of the tongue pad being carefully placed at the top of the shoe tongue.

Second Step: Attach the Pad. Peel off the backing from the adhesive side of the tongue pad and press it firmly onto the tongue of the shoe.

Is There a Right Time to Remove the Tongue Pad?

Once your child starts saying the shoes feel tight, it’s a sign to remove the tongue pads. As their feet grow, taking out the pads creates extra space inside the shoe—allowing for a more comfortable fit and extending wear time by another month or two.
