Nike Kids’ Shoes in Wide Widths – They Do EXIST!

Is your child with wide feet asking for a pair of Nike shoes, but everything you’ve tried feels too tight? Most Nike styles tend to run narrow, but I’ve found a few options that fit much wider — and some even come in wide widths! Thanks to Nike’s growing commitment to inclusive sizing, kids with wide or extra wide feet can now enjoy comfortable, stylish sneakers without compromising fit. As a professional shoe fitter with years of experience, I’m here to share the best Nike kids’ shoes for wide feet to help you find the perfect pair.
Is Your Wide-Footed Child Asking for Nike Shoes?
Nike is one of the most trusted and popular brands worldwide for both apparel and footwear. As kids grow, they often gravitate toward fashion-forward brands like Nike, which is known for combining style and innovation. However, despite their wide appeal, Nike offers very few shoe options for children with wide feet.

One of the most common questions parents ask me is: “Why doesn’t Nike make more sneakers for children with wide feet?” Honestly, I wish I had the answer. There are so many kids with wide and extra wide feet who would love to wear Nike, but most of their styles are simply too narrow to accommodate them.
What Makes the Nike Shoes I Recommend Effective for Wide Feet?
Here’s what makes the Nike shoes I recommend effective for children with wider feet:
Feature One: Extra Depth. Nike kids’ shoes designed for wide widths often come with extra depth, providing ample space for the foot to sit comfortably without feeling cramped. This additional depth is critical for accommodating wider feet and higher insteps, ensuring the shoes fit properly and comfortably.

Feature Two: Round Toe-Boxes. Another notable feature is the round toe-box design. This design allows for more room in the front of the shoe, offering a comfortable fit for toes and reducing the risk of blisters or discomfort. A round toe-box is crucial for children with wide feet, as it prevents the toes from being squished together, which can lead to foot pain and developmental issues.

Before diving into the best Nike kids’ shoes for wide feet, let’s make sure you know your child’s exact foot size. Getting the right fit is key — and without knowing your child’s true size, it’s almost impossible to order the correct shoes online!

Some of the Nike shoes I recommend come with convenient velcro closures, offering a smart, durable, and easy solution for kids who crave independence—no more worrying about tying shoelaces! Velcro sneakers are especially ideal for children who aren’t ready for lace-up shoes, whether it’s because they’re still learning to tie their shoes or have weaker fine motor skills. If that’s the case for your child, a pair of velcro Nike sneakers or shoes with toggle laces can make daily life much easier and keep their feet comfortably supported.

Can Children with Extra Wide Feet Wear Nike Shoes?
While Nike offers great options for children with wide feet, those with extra wide feet may still find it challenging to get a perfect fit. In these cases, I recommend considering other brands that specialize in extra wide footwear. Brands such as New Balance and Stride Rite offer dedicated lines for extra wide feet, providing additional options for parents who need them.
Young parents are always trying to provide their kids with stylish shoes, and sometimes they forget about the importance of well-fitting and supportive shoes. My goal as a shoe fitter has always been to provide kids and parents with both comfort and style!
Nike has stopped producing any kids shoes in the wide width. This is very disheartening to many children who need wide shoes.
Hello Jennifer,
I agree, so many children with wide or extra wide feet are not able to wear Nike shoes because the company doesn’t consider different foot shapes.
Unfortunately, Nike is not manufacturing any new shoes in wide widths. I am trying to find online retailers that have some of the older models available in wide widths.
How can I find these wider fitting shoes that I see pics of? Do you have any names of the shoes so I can find them? My 8 yr old grandson is begging for a pair as all of his friends are wearing them and I’m not having any luck finding any to fit his chunky wide feet. PLEASE HELP!
Hello Judy,
You need to click on the image of the shoe so you can be redirected to a website that sells them. If you tell me the shoe size that your grandson wears I am happy to send you specific shoe recommendations.
Hi Juan,
Thanks for your helpful post. I’m looking for a wide fitting trainer for my 5 year old son with wider than usual feet.
The first link in your post looks like the Nike Star Runner 2 shoes. Are the Nike Star Runner 3 shoes, which are the most recent version, also wide fitting?
They don’t actually come in a wide fit on Nike’s website in the UK. Are you suggesting that this shoe is described by Nike as wide fitting, or the design allows it to fit wide feet?
Many thanks!
Hello Egon,
The Nike Star Runner 2 is not available in wide widths (W), but fits naturally wide. The double velcro straps allow for easy on and off and accommodate high insteps.
The Nike Star Runner 3 is also not available in wide widths but fits the same way as the Nike Star Runner 2.
I hope this clarifies.
Do you know why they stopped making nike flyease in wide fittings? They were supposed to be designed for kids wearing orthotics or splints but I just received an online order and they are too narrow. Granted the “w” was not on the order list but I took a chance…. Anyway have you any update on this?
Hello Adrienne,
No, I don’t know why they stopped making the Flyease in wide widths.
I believe it might have something to do with Nike trying to keep the cost of mass produced shoes low by producing only the most common styles (medium width). The fewer variations there are, the less the cost is for shoe companies.
OMG Thank You So Much for this Article. My 22 year old daughter has wide feet and me and my step mom can only order her shoes from one website. Of course no nikes and i love her in them. Im sending her this article as soon as im finish with this comment. Im also adding your website to my home screen so i can read up on my childs wide feet. Thank You!!
Lol i meant my 22 month old Daughter!!! I dont have a 22 year old running around while im worrying about putting her ass into Nikes! Oh Man!!????
🙂 I figured that as well!
Hello Ashley,
I am glad you find the website informative! I will be here in case you have any questions.
Is there any girls Nike shoes that run wider than normal?
Hello Sylvia,
All of the styles that I recommend in this article are the wider ones in the market.
It does not appear that any of the wide shoes come in Girls youth sizes
Hello Sylvia,
Unfortunately they do not. Nike doesn’t make any girl shoe styles in wide widths, and the selection for boys its very small. I hope they do start making them soon since there are a lot of girls with wide feet that are not able to wear their shoes.
This article says “Below you can find a selection of the best Nike shoes for kids that come in wide widths!” but there is no actual reference to which specific shoes you are talking about. What am I missing?
Hello Mrs.K,
If you are not able to see the selection of Nike shoes in wide widths please refresh your webpage.
Let me know if you can see them now.
