Nike Kids’ Shoes in Wide Widths – They Do EXIST!

Has your child with wide feet been asking you to get a pair of Nike shoes? Are you having a hard time finding a pair that will fit the shape of his/her wide feet? Can children with wide or extra wide feet wear Nike shoes? I will say that 90% of the time they can’t! With that said, certain Nike shoe styles fit wider than others and are actually available in wide widths. Let me show you a list of the best Nike kids’ shoes in wide widths based on my many years of shoe fitting experience.

Has Your Child with Wide Feet Been Asking You for a Pair of Nike Shoes?

When it comes to apparel and footwear, Nike is one of the most trustworthy and popular brands all over the world. As children grow up, they start asking about more fashion-oriented shoe brands and Nike is a brand that caters to everyone’s style needs, kids and adults alike. They innovate new designs and types of shoes according to the specific desires of their customers. However, their main flaw is that they offer very few shoe styles for children with wide feet.

Many parents have asked me one common question: Why doesn’t Nike manufacture more sneakers for children with wide feet? I don’t know the answer to this question, because there are a lot of children with wide and extra wide feet out there that are not able to wear Nike shoes because the shoes are too narrow for their feet.

What can you do if your child has wide or extra wide feet and wants to wear a pair of Nike shoes? Are you going to let them wear the shoes anyway? Wouldn’t that end up creating all sorts of foot issues?

The Importance of Fitting Your Child in the Correct Pair of Shoes

Wearing shoes that are too narrow can lead to your child developing foot issues such as blisters, calluses, and corns. The good news is that I found a couple of Nike shoe styles that can fit the shape of a child with wide feet.

My Experience Fitting Children’s Shoes – Over a Decade of Shoe Fitting Experience!

I have been fitting children’s shoes for over 10 years now, working for a specialized children’s shoe store that specializes in helping children with “complicated” foot shapes as well as foot and leg problems, but we provide regular shoe fittings as well. I have seen the disappointment on children’s faces when they can’t fit in a single pair of Nike shoes that they like.

At the children’s shoe store that I work for we carry every single shoe style that Nike manufactures in wide widths. We carry them because we are a fitting shoe store, so our main goal is to provide children with shoes that fit. We also have a lot of children with wide and extra wide feet that visit our store.

When I mention that we carry shoes in wide widths from Nike, I am not talking about a particular Nike shoe style that fits wider than others, I am talking about styles that actually come labeled as wide (W). If your child has wide or extra wide feet and has been asking you for a pair of Nike sneakers, you don’t have to compromise on the fit anymore!

Let me show you the 2 key features that the Nike shoes I recommend provide that make them capable of fitting children with wide feet.

What Makes the Nike Shoes I Recommend Effective for Wide Feet?

In addition to being labeled as wide (W), the Nike shoes I recommend provide these 2 features:

1️⃣ Extra Depth: This feature allows the child’s feet to fit deeply inside the shoes and prevents the top part of the feet (instep) from rubbing against the top part of the shoes. Let me show you the difference in depth between one of the Nike shoes I recommend versus another Nike shoe style:

2️⃣ Rounder Toe-Boxes: This feature prevents the child’s toes from overlapping or rubbing against one another or the side of the shoes. Let me show you how the toe-box of one of the Nike shoes I recommend looks compared to a different pair of Nike shoes. These shoes are the same size, but do you notice how much rounder the toe-box of the shoe on the right is?

Parents are always trying to provide their kids with a pair of shoes that they like, but at the same time, they should never compromise the fit of the shoe. If your child is asking you for Nike sneakers but happens to have wide feet, there are specific Nike shoe styles that actually do come in wide widths and I will help you find them.

Before I show you a selection of the best Nike kids’ shoes in wide widths, I want to make sure that you are 100% sure of your child’s foot size. You won’t be able to order the correct shoe size online if you don’t know your child’s foot size to begin with.

Are You 100% Sure of Your Child’s Foot Size?

If you are unsure about what foot size your child is, you should take a look at an article I wrote where I describe the simplest, yet most effective way to figure out your child’s foot size from home:

How to Measure Your Kids’ Foot – 2 Simple Steps to Determine Foot Length and Foot Width

In that article I help parents determine their child’s exact foot size and whether the child has narrow, medium, wide, or extra wide feet. I also will be able to tell you whether your child has a high instep or not.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at a selection of the best Nike shoes for kids with wide feet. Disclosure: Keep in mind that we may receive commissions when you click our links and make purchases.

Please note that if the Nike shoes below are not labeled as wide (W) that means that they fit naturally wide and provide extra depth and rounded toe-boxes.

Unsure About What Shoe Size You Should Order?

In each of the descriptions of the shoes, I indicate whether you need to order a half size or a whole size bigger than your child’s current foot size to provide the correct amount of growing room.

Some of the Nike shoes I recommend are available with velcro, which is a smart, durable, and easy way to provide your children with the independence that they always wanted, and your children will never have to worry about tying the shoelaces anymore.

Some children might not be ready to wear shoes with shoelaces, either because they don’t want to learn how to tie them, or because they have weak fine motor skills. If this is the case with your child, you can provide him or her with a pair of velcro sneakers or toggle shoelaces.

There are many cases of children tripping and falling and becoming severely injured due to untied shoelaces. Therefore, it is important to tie shoelaces properly or provide your child with an alternative.

Can Children with Extra Wide Feet Wear Nike Shoes?

Nike is a very popular brand among not just young children, but adults as well. The older children get the more they will start caring about what they wear, and peer pressure at school might lead them to choose fashion over comfort.

I have helped numerous children at the shoe store that I work for, and they tell me they want to wear Nike shoes because that’s what their friends wear. I totally get that, and as long as the shoes fit, you should be able to provide your kids with the shoes that they want to wear.

If your child happens to have extra wide feet and is not able to fit in any of the Nike shoe styles above, there are other types of shoes that will fit the shape of his/her feet better.

Children with extra wide feet always have a hard time finding shoes that fit, especially because there are not that many shoe styles available in extra wide widths (XW). That is the reason why I decided to create a post where I describe the best shoes for children with extra wide feet, and you can find it here:

Making Kids Happy – Provide Them with the Shoes They Always Wanted!

If your child with wide feet has been begging you to get a pair of Nike sneakers for a long time, you don’t have to compromise the fit anymore. I have seen several instances where parents bring their kids to the shoe store to get them good, sturdy, supportive, and well-fitting shoes, but they soon realize that their child had a particular shoe style in mind.

Keep in mind that if your child is experiencing any sort of foot or leg pain, you must stay away from Nike sneakers. There are other types of shoes that are more substantial and supportive that will help reduce or fully eliminate the pain that your child is experiencing. I wrote a post where I describe the best shoes for children who are experiencing foot or leg pain and you can find it here:

As kids get older and start asking for more stylish shoe brands, Nike happens to be at the top of their list.

16 Comments on Nike Kids’ Shoes in Wide Widths – They Do EXIST!

  1. This article says “Below you can find a selection of the best Nike shoes for kids that come in wide widths!” but there is no actual reference to which specific shoes you are talking about. What am I missing?

    • Hello Sylvia,

Unfortunately they do not. Nike doesn’t make any girl shoe styles in wide widths, and the selection for boys its very small. I hope they do start making them soon since there are a lot of girls with wide feet that are not able to wear their shoes.

  2. OMG Thank You So Much for this Article. My 22 year old daughter has wide feet and me and my step mom can only order her shoes from one website. Of course no nikes and i love her in them. Im sending her this article as soon as im finish with this comment. Im also adding your website to my home screen so i can read up on my childs wide feet. Thank You!!

  3. Do you know why they stopped making nike flyease in wide fittings? They were supposed to be designed for kids wearing orthotics or splints but I just received an online order and they are too narrow. Granted the “w” was not on the order list but I took a chance…. Anyway have you any update on this?

    • Hello Adrienne,

No, I don’t know why they stopped making the Flyease in wide widths.

I believe it might have something to do with Nike trying to keep the cost of mass produced shoes low by producing only the most common styles (medium width). The fewer variations there are, the less the cost is for shoe companies.

  4. Hi Juan,

Thanks for your helpful post. I’m looking for a wide fitting trainer for my 5 year old son with wider than usual feet.

The first link in your post looks like the Nike Star Runner 2 shoes. Are the Nike Star Runner 3 shoes, which are the most recent version, also wide fitting?

They don’t actually come in a wide fit on Nike’s website in the UK. Are you suggesting that this shoe is described by Nike as wide fitting, or the design allows it to fit wide feet?

    Many thanks!

    • Hello Egon,

The Nike Star Runner 2 is not available in wide widths (W), but fits naturally wide. The double velcro straps allow for easy on and off and accommodate high insteps.

The Nike Star Runner 3 is also not available in wide widths but fits the same way as the Nike Star Runner 2.

      I hope this clarifies.

  5. How can I find these wider fitting shoes that I see pics of? Do you have any names of the shoes so I can find them? My 8 yr old grandson is begging for a pair as all of his friends are wearing them and I’m not having any luck finding any to fit his chunky wide feet. PLEASE HELP!

    • Hello Judy,

You need to click on the image of the shoe so you can be redirected to a website that sells them. If you tell me the shoe size that your grandson wears I am happy to send you specific shoe recommendations.
