Slides for Kids with Wide Feet and High Insteps – Oversized Openings and Adjustable!
Do you have a child who has really wide feet with a high instep and has been asking you for a pair of slides? Have you noticed that your child’s feet are not able to slide forward and the velcro straps of the slides barely meet? Certain slides can accommodate the shape of a wide foot and high instep a lot better than others, and I know which styles these are from having fitted them before. I will show you a list of the best slides for kids with wide feet and high insteps based on my many years of shoe fitting experience.
At the shoe store that I work for, I have helped several children with wide feet and high insteps find the perfect pair of shoes for their feet, and I believe I will be able to help your child as well. One of the main issues that children with wide feet and high insteps have is finding shoes that are deep and wide enough for their feet. When it comes to slides, they usually feel too much pressure on the top part of their feet (instep), or they are not able to slide their foot all the way forward.
If you notice red marks on the top part of your kids’ feet every time they take the slides off, that’s the first sign that the slides might not be wide or deep enough. Take a look at the image below for visualization purposes:
What Slides Work Best for Kids with Wide Feet and High Insteps?
I usually fit children with wide feet and high insteps in slides that are adjustable at the front, that way they can have better control over how tight or loose they want the sandals to feel around the instep. The adjustable velcro also helps open up the slides widely.
There are also certain slides that have a wider platform and will help accommodate a wide forefoot. For example, let’s take a look at the difference between two kids’ slides that are the same size in length. The slide on the right is made by Adidas and the slide on the left is made by Under Armour. Do you notice how the slide on the right has a wider platform and rounded toe-box compared to the slide on the left?
This doesn’t mean that all Under Armour slides will be too narrow or that all Adidas slides will work well for children with wide feet. There are specific models among each shoe brand that work a lot better than others, and those are the ones I will show you shortly.
By the way, in addition to being capable of accommodating a wide foot and a high instep, the slides that I recommend provide cushioned and supportive footbeds for a comfortable underfoot feel.

Unsure About What Sandal Size You Should Order?
Take a look at the last bullet point below each slide to find out what size you should order to allow for the correct amount of growing room. Keep in mind that most slides are not available in half sizes, so if your child is “in between sizes” I suggest that you order the next size up.
For example, if your child’s foot size measures a size 3 I suggest getting the slides in a size 4 to allow for the correct amount of growing room. If your child’s foot size measures a 3 1/2, I also recommend getting the size 4 to allow for the correct amount of growing room.
How to Retrieve Your Child’s Exact Foot Size (Length and Width)
Many families are unsure about what their child’s current foot size is. Some parents believe their child has wide feet when in fact the child has extra wide feet. I created a great resource to help retrieve a child’s current foot length and shape.
You will also end up saving time and money by not having to order the slides in multiple sizes.
Why Do Children Love to Wear Slides?
Children like how easy slides are to get on and off. Sides are also the perfect transition shoe. For example, if your child is involved in sports, they can easily transition into and out of their cleats. Not to mention they are also great to wear as indoor shoes.
