Sperry Shoes for Teenage Girls in Women’s Shoe Sizes – Find Out How to Get them Cheaper!

Teenage girls can have a large shoe collection, but one shoe that most teens who go to private or Catholic school have in common is Sperrys, otherwise known as “boat shoes.” Sperry shoes aren’t only used because of their looks and durability, they are also a high school icon. If your daughter is already wearing women’s shoe sizes and needs a pair of Sperry shoes for school or casual wear, I will show you which models are approved by most schools based on my 10 years of shoe fitting experience.

Sperry shoes are classic, comfortable and durable, but they tend to be more expensive compared to other school shoes. Most parents are not aware that if their daughter wears a women’s shoe size 9 or smaller they can wear the kids’ version of the shoes (same design and support), at a much lower price. In most cases, half the price of what the adult version of the shoe costs!

The Magic Formula to Save Big on Your Kids’ Shoes

I have helped many families find the perfect pair of shoes for their children from their first steps to their teenage years. When I size teenage girls for their shoes sometimes they are already in women’s shoe sizes. While we don’t carry women’s shoes, I tell them that we can fit them in a pair of kids’ shoes that translates to their women’s shoe size.

The magic formula: Women’s shoe size – 1.5 = Your kids’ shoe size!

Let’s say your daughter measures a women’s shoe size 8 1/2. In this case, you can get the kids’ version of the Sperry shoes in a size 7 to accommodate your daughter’s foot size.

Take a look at the chart below to understand how this shoe size conversion works.

How Much Can You Save Buying the Kids’ Version of the Shoes?

You can save anywhere between $30 to $40. Let’s take a look at the screenshots below.

The first screenshot shows a pair of kids Sperry shoes in a size 7 that retails for $54. Remember that a big kid shoe size 7 translates to a women’s shoe size 8 1/2.

While the colors might be a little different the style and materials that the shoes are made of are the same.

Pretty awesome, right?

Can the Sperry Shoes that I Recommend Fit Girls with Wide Feet?

You will notice that some of the Sperry shoes below are available in wide widths while some other models are only available in standard widths. If your girl has wide feet make sure to select the wide width option (W).

What Shoe Size Should You Order? – Do Sperry Shoes Fit Short or Long?

Sperry shoes tend to fit on the longer side. So, let me show you a couple of scenarios so you can figure out what shoe size to order for your daughter:

  • If your daughter’s feet measure a women’s size 8, I suggest that you order the Sperry shoes in a kids shoe size 6 even though there is a 1 1/2 size difference between women’s and kids’ shoe sizes. This is because the shoes fit long, so the shoe size 6 will still allow for the correct amount of growing room.
  • If your daughter’s feet measure a women’s size 7 1/2, I suggest that you order the Sperry shoes in a kids shoe size 5 1/2.

I hope this makes sense to you. If you are unsure about what shoe size you should order I suggest that you ask your question in the comments section below or contact me via email:

Does Your Daughter Need to Wear Sperry Shoes to School?

Most private and catholic schools require children to wear Sperry shoes. The Sperry models that I recommended are approved by most schools. That being said, different schools have different requirements when it comes to what shoes children can wear with their school uniforms. Some schools require the shoes to be black or white, with no exceptions.

Most teenage girls find Sperry shoes super cute. They are also comfortable and versatile (water and slip-resistant), as they can be worn to several different occasions.

Are the Kids Version of Sperry Shoes Durable as the Adult One?

As for durability, the kids’ version of the shoes is made with the same materials as the adult one (100% leather).

Based on what I have seen at the shoe store, Sperry shoes hold up well depending on how rough your child treats them. Most children who come back to the shoe store for a new pair tend to outgrow the shoes before wearing them out.

How to Order the Correct Shoe Size Online

To order the correct shoe size online, you must know your child’s exact foot length and shape. I created a great resource that helps families retrieve their exact child’s foot length and shape (narrow, medium, wide, extra wide, high instep).

Should Your Child Wear Socks with Her Sperry Shoes?

The short answer is yes. Your child will feel more comfortable and you will extend the life of the shoes.

Allowing your child to wear her shoes sockless is going to lead to an accumulation of sweat. This will probably lead to odor issues and the sweat can also damage the shoes and lead to discoloration.

My Final Piece of Advice – Prevent Sperry Shoes from Becoming Untied

One major downside of getting Sperry boat shoes is that the shoelaces tend to come untied quite often. Even though most teenagers don’t like to tie their shoes, I suggest that they double knot them or replace the laces with a different kind that stays tied better. If you want to switch shoelaces, I suggest that you look into these ones.
