Are you type of parent who is always complaining that you can’t find shoes for your kids’ wide feet? Actually, finding shoes for a child who has narrow feet is a lot harder! I have been fitting children’s shoes for 7 years now, and I always have a harder time finding shoes for a child with narrow feet than for a child with wide or extra wide feet!
The main reason is that shoe companies do make children’s shoes in wide and extra wide widths, but they don’t make any kids’ shoes that come in narrow widths! They actually used to make certain shoe styles in narrow feet, but unfortunately they stopped making them. It is true that certain shoes run narrower than others, but finding the right type of shoes for a child with narrow feet takes knowledge and experience!
I work for a specialized children’s shoe store where I handle approximately two hundred fittings/try ons per week. I know everything related to children’s shoes and the way they fit! If you are always having a hard time finding narrow shoes for your child, then you have come to the right place!
If you are fitting your children in shoes that are too wide for their feet, you can cause several foot problems. Their feet will slide too much inside the shoes and the constant friction will lead to blisters and corns! If the shoes are not fitting properly, they will compromise your child’s stability since her or his heels will slide too much inside the shoe.
So… You are probably asking yourself how and where you can find narrow shoes for your child.
I always recommend that parents take their kids’ to their local children’s shoe store, where a shoe fitter can find the perfect pair of shoes to fit your kids’ narrow feet. However, several parents have asked me where they can get their kids’ shoes since they don’t have a local shoe store that they trust. They are tired of taking their kids’ shoes to place such as Nordstrom or Stride Rite, where they end up fitting their kids’ in the wrong pair of shoes every time.
If you don’t have a local children’s shoe store that you trust, you can read a post I write the best place to get your kids’ shoes online called:

Did you know that when fitting a child with narrow feet in shoes sometimes I end up putting a tongue pad inside the shoe? The tongue pad also snugs up against the entire shoe, making your child’s feet feel more comfortable and secure inside the shoe!
While tongue pads won’t work in kids’ sandals, they will work in your kids’ everyday sneakers and dress shoes! I wrote a post where I explain how to fit a tongue pad inside the shoe and where to get them for the most affordable price. The post is called:

Stop Taking Your Kids’ To Be Fitted For Shoes At The Mall!
I always recommend that parents take their kids’ to their local kids’ shoe store to make sure their kids’ shoes are fitted properly. Some parents tell me stories about taking their kids’ to Stride Rite or Nordstrom to be fitted for shoes, and ending up wearing the wrong shoe size over and over again.
If you normally take your child to be fitted for shoes at those places, please STOP! I have helped many children who come from those stores wearing the wrong shoe size! If you believe these are good places to take your kids to be fitted for shoes, you should know better! It is not the employees fault, because they don’t go through the proper training to measure and find the correct shoes for children. They are taught to make a sale, whether the shoes fit or not.
I wrote a post where I describe in more detail why you must stop taking your kids’ to be fitted for shoes at those places here:
