Wide T-Strap Shoes for School – They Also Fit High Insteps!

Are you having a hard time finding a pair of t-strap shoes to meet your child’s back to school uniform code? Does your little girl have wide feet and complains that all of the t-strap shoes hurt her feet? There is a small selection of t-strap shoes that are capable of accommodating a wide foot, but the good news is that I will help you find them!

I have been fitting children’s shoes for many years, and I noticed that some children in addition to having wide feet also have high insteps. The instep is the top part of the foot, and when it’s high, it makes it a lot more challenging to find shoes that fit. Here is how a foot with a high instep looks like:

It’s challenging to find t-strap shoes that can accommodate wide feet and high insteps, as the t-strap tends to put too much pressure on the top part of the foot. Some parents email me complaining that they can’t even get the t-strap part of the shoe to close:

I will be able to tell you which t-strap shoes are wider than others based on my many years of shoe fitting experience. We are sort of limited in the models that might work for your child’s feet, as in addition to finding a shoe that is wide enough for your child’s feet, we also need the shoes to be made of a solid color (as most schools require a solid black or white shoe).

What Makes the T-Strap Shoes I Recommend Effective for Wide Feet?

These are the two reasons why the t-strap shoes that I recommend are ideal for children with wide feet:

1️⃣ Round Toe-Boxes to Prevent Blisters: This feature prevents your child’s toes from overlapping or rubbing against one another or the side of the shoes. This also means that your child’s toes can splay naturally, improving balance and preventing rubbing and friction.

2️⃣ Extra Depth to Accommodate High Insteps: This feature prevents the top part of your girls’ feet (instep) from rubbing against the top part of the shoes. The deeper your girl’s feet can sit inside the shoes, the better. Shoes with extra depth also prevent the top part of the toes from rubbing against the top front part of the shoes.

The t-strap shoes that I recommend also provide additional features to help keep your child’s feet comfortable and healthy:

  • Extra padding around the collar
  • Leather uppers and leather linings
  • Lightweight and flexible
  • Firm heel counters

Most school uniform policies require the shoes to be made from solid black or white color. However, the list I have put together of t-strap shoes for kids with wide feet shows the shoes in all sorts of different colors just in case your child is allowed to wear any shoe color to school.

Even though these shoes have worked for many families there is no guarantee that they will work for your child’s feet. That being said, I have fitted these models at the shoe store that I work for and I can tell you that they can accommodate most wide feet with high insteps.

Are You Unsure About What Shoe Size you Should Order Online?

You won’t be able to order the correct shoe size online if you don’t know your child’s exact foot shape and length. That resource will help you avoid buying your kids’ shoes in multiple sizes and having to return the shoes multiple times.
