Wide Width Sperry Shoes – The Best Sperry Shoes For Kids!

Wide Sperry Shoes

Have you been looking for wide Sperry shoes for your child? Sperry “boat” shoes are great for wearing to school and formal occasions. Sperry shoes are best known as boat shoes and they come packed with numerous features that will provide comfort for your kids’ feet!

These shoes are extremely well-made and come with a supportive outsole that will protect your kids’ feet when they are playing and running around! Several parents have asked me if Sperry shoes will fit a child who has wide or extra wide feet. Sperry shoes come in different widths, including wide widths!

Just so you know, Sperry shoes will fit a child that has wide feet, but they won’t fit a child with extra wide feet. It is also important to understand that not all Sperry shoes come in wide widths, only certain styles do. There are some styles that are also better made than others, and will offer more support and stability for your child! I will describe the best Sperry shoes for kids that come in wide widths below!

I have been working for a specialized children’s shoe store for over 7 years now, and I have fitted shoes for children with foot problems and provided regular fittings. I know everything that relates to children feet and their shoes!

I actually own a pair of Sperry shoes myself, and I can tell you that they are extremely comfortable. Did you know that if you wear a women shoe size 8 ½ or smaller you can purchase the kids’ version of Sperry shoes? You will end up saving a lot of money! Certain styles can be $40 dollars cheaper than the women’s version!

I have fitted several mothers who bring their children to the store in Sperry shoes and they love them!

I have seen many children that become really upset when we can’t find the particular shoe they had been hoping for. I don’t want your child to end up in tears at your kids’ shoe store because their Sperry shoes feel “too tight”!

In this post, I will describe the best kids’ Sperry shoes for children who have wide feet, and I will also provide a selection of Sperry shoes for moms that can fit in children’s shoe sizes!

Why Are Sperry Shoes So Popular? – Attractive Yet Functional!

Whether your child wants to wear these shoes to school or more formal occasions, Sperry shoes are a solidly fashionable yet functional shoe choice!

Most children prefer to wear sneakers all day rather than wearing casual, dressy shoes! However, once they try a pair of Sperry shoes on, they typically love the way they feel! Children can wear them as their dressy shoes, while also running around and playing in them since these shoes are built to last!

These shoes are extremely durable, and your child will outgrow them before anything happens to them. They come with a rubber sole that provides good grip, so your child can run around and feel comfortable at the same time.

When parents bring their kids to the shoe store, they always ask if we carry Sperry boat shoes for kids. Why do parents love Sperry shoes for their kids? One of the main reasons is that they’re nice enough to wear to church and casual enough to wear while running around! Another feature parents love most about Sperry shoes is how versatile they are!

Are Sperry Shoes Supportive Enough For Your Kids’ Feet?

Paul Sperry invented one of the most enduring boat shoes in 1935. This is the go-to shoe for parents who have a child who needs a pair of shoes to wear for different types of occasions. However, I am a firm believer that kids’ need a pair of everyday sneakers to perform their everyday activities.

Don’t get me wrong, Sperry shoes area a great choice since they provide great support and will last your kids the whole school semester. I just don’t think there is any type of shoe that can replace your kids’ everyday sneakers.

I believe all children must have one pair of good, supportive, everyday sneakers. If you decide to provide them with another type of shoe, that’s up to you, but you should never refrain from providing your child with a pair of everyday sneakers!

Sperry boat shoes do provide good support and stability, and the inside of the shoe is really soft. They might be the number 1 choice made by kids when their parents let them choose a dressy shoe style.

Toddler Sperry Shoes – They Come With Velcro Closure!

There is one Sperry shoe style that is the NUMBER 1 CHOICE for children who don’t know how to tie their shoes. They have a great stylish look, since it looks like the shoe comes with shoe laces but it’s actually a velcro closure!

Most parents describe this shoe style as ABSOLUTELY adorable! Your child can wear it to school, church, Christmas, or any other special occasion you might think of!

Give your child the independence they want and don’t compromise on style. The best feature…. It is available in WIDE widths!

Sperry Shoes For Kids – The Issue With Shoe Laces!

Several parents have complained about having to constantly retie their child’s Sperry shoes. It is true that depending on the Sperry shoe style that you choose, the shoe laces might keep coming untied!

However, there are certain kids’ Sperry shoe styles that come with better shoe laces than others. Below you can find a selection of Sperry shoes for kids that come with the better type of shoe laces, and these shoes are also available in wide widths!

The first two options from the left have velcro closure instead of shoelaces!

All of these shoe styles fit “true to size”,which means that you need a half a size longer of the size that your child measures in the shoe measuring scale in order to allow for growing room.

There is also a way of adjusting the original Sperry shoe laces so that your child can wear the shoes as slip-on shoes. Here is how the shoe would look like:

Can I Fit An Orthotic Inside A Pair Of Sperry Shoes?

You definitely can, but it won’t do much good for your kids’ feet! Besides, because Sperry shoes for kids are not really deep, the orthotic will end up raising your kid’s feet up, making your child’s feet feel tight and uncomfortable!

If your children wear orthotics, it’s always better to use them in their everyday sneakers. I describe the best shoes for children who wear orthotics here:

Tongue Pads For Sperry Shoes – STOP Heel Slippage!

I have spoken with several parents who have asked how they can stop their kid’s heels from coming out of their Sperrys every time they walk, especially when wearing Sperry shoes. There is a trick I use and it ALWAYS works!

Have you ever heard of tongue pads for shoes? Tongue pads are adhesive-backed pads that fit below the tongue of the shoe and make the whole shoe feel so much better, especially when your heels keep popping out of the shoe!

Tongue pads are a great way of securing your kids’ heels and stopping the shoes from going up and down every time your child walks. I have used a tongue pad in several Sperry shoes for children, and they are a simple solution when your kids’ shoes are slipping off.

Should My Child Wear Socks With His Sperry Shoes?

I am a firm believer that children should always wear socks with their footwear. Socks act as a barrier between your kid’s feet and their shoes that help prevent irritation and infection! They make the whole shoe feel much more comfortable, and they are important to keep your kids’ feet healthy.

Did you know that getting the correct sock size is just as important as getting the correct shoe size? If you get your child a pair of socks that are too small, you will end up cramping your kids’ toes, will leads them to overlap and rub against each other. However, if you get your kids’ socks that are too big, they will end up bunching up and creating all sorts of discomfort for your kid’s feet. You need to get the size just right!

I wrote a post where I describe the importance of wearing socks and how to make sure that you are providing your children with the correct sock size. You can find that post here:

Do you wear a women’s shoe size 8 ½ or smaller? That means you can get a pair of Sperry kids shoe size 6 or 6 ½ that will fit your feet perfectly! There is a whole size and a half difference between kids and women shoe sizes. That means that if you wear a women shoe size 5, you will fit in a pair of kids’ shoe 3 ½. Sperry shoes tend to run really long, which is why I recommend trying them a little smaller than what you would normally wear!
