This depends on the degree of your child’s foot condition and whether your child experiences foot or leg pain when not wearing supportive footwear. In some cases, children can wear these types of shoes without orthotics, as long as they wear them for very short periods of time.

The Challenges of Fitting Insoles Inside Boots, Cleats, and Dress Shoes

Not all orthotics/insoles are capable of fitting inside boots, cleats, and dress shoes, as most insoles take up too much extra space inside the shoes. It’s easier to fit insoles inside sneakers, but when it comes to other types of footwear that are not as deep such as boots, cleats, or dress shoes, it gets a lot more challenging.

The good news is that after having fitted several different insoles I became familiar with the ones that provide good support but don’t take as much extra space inside the shoes as others.
