Light Up Shoes for Kids with Flat Feet – Supportive and Flashy!

light-up-shoes-for-kids-with-flat-feet

Do you have a child with flat feet who has been asking you for a pair of light up shoes? Have you been hesitant of providing your child with light up shoes and afraid that they might worsen your child’s foot condition?

Children with flat feet tend to have poor posture habits, given that having flat feet makes their feet collapse and turn inwards, and that it also affects their walking gait.

If your child has been diagnosed with flat feet, don’t panic! This condition is more common that you think, but this doesn’t mean that it should be left untreated or be underestimated.

I have noticed how most pediatricians advise parents to leave this condition alone, under the assumption that the child will eventually “outgrow the condition”.

I always recommend parents to be proactive and don’t take the “wait and see approach” when it comes to treating their children foot conditions. Leaving your children foot conditions untreated can only lead to the condition getting worse.

Most parents assume that all light up shoes are too heavy and unsupportive. The fact is that while most light up shoes tend to be heavier and less flexible than most sneakers, there is a small selection of light up shoes that are lighter weight and provide good support.

But don’t take my word for it, let me prove it to you.

Let’s take a look at a picture of a flat-footed child standing barefoot. Do you notice how the child’s feet are collapsing and turning inwards?

Now let’s see what happens when we fit that same child in a pair of the supportive light up shoes that I recommend. Do you notice how the child’s feet are a lot straighter?

What a difference the correct type of shoes can make!

What Makes the Light Up Shoes I Recommend Effective for Flat Feet?

The light up shoes that I recommend provide 2 key features for children with flat feet:

✅ Substantial Outsole: This is the part of the shoes that is going to prevent your child’s feet from collapsing and turning inwards.

✅ Firm Heel Counter: This is the back part of the shoes that provides ankle and heel support. Some children’s feet collapse and turn inwards from having rolled ankles. Shoes with firm heel counters support the heels and prevent the feet from collapsing.

There is a very small selection of light up shoes that provide these 2 features, but the good news is that I will help you find them.

I have been working for a specialized children’s shoe store for the last 10 years, and I have helped hundreds of children with flat feet find the perfect pair of shoes for their feet. We specialize in children with foot and leg problems, and the difference that a good pair of supportive shoes can make in a child’s life is quite shocking. Over the years I have become familiar with the best shoe brands for children with flat feet.

The shoe brands that manufacture supportive light up shoes for kids are Geox and Stride Rite. However, this doesn’t mean that all shoes from these 2 shoe brands are going to work for your child’s flat feet.

Without further due, let’s take a look at a selection of the best light up shoes for kids with flat feet.

Full disclosure, I only review shoes that I have fitted at the shoe store before, as that is the only way to really tell how well-made the shoes are, the amount of support that they provide, and how they fit.

The Stride Rite shoes are available in different widths such as medium (M) and wide (W), so please chose your child’s shoe width accordingly. The Geox styles are not available in wide widths but they fit children with medium and wide feet. Disclosure: Keep in mind that we may receive commissions when you click our links and make purchases.

In order to allow for growing room, I highly recommend that parents order these shoes a half a size larger than the size their children’s feet measure. This translates to 0.3 inches or 0.7 centimeters of space between your child’s longest toe and the end of the shoes.

Are You 100% Sure of Your Child’s Foot Size? – Let’s Find Out!

Before you order your kids’ shoes online, I want to make sure that you are 100% sure of your child’s foot size. You can’t possibly order the correct shoe size online if you don’t know your child’s foot size to begin with.

Let’s start by checking if you don’t have a good fitting children’s shoe store in your area. I created a map that describes the best fitting children’s shoe stores by state:

The Best Kids’ Shoe Stores In The United States – Where To Go For Proper Fittings

If after looking at that map you still can’t seem to find a store in your area, then proceed to taking a look at a different article I wrote where I describe the simplest, yet most effective way to figure out your child’s exact foot size from home:

Now that you know which are the best light up shoes for kids with flat feet and how to figure out your child’s exact foot size from home, you are ready to keep your child’s feet healthy.

There are no other light up shoes that provide better support than the ones I just recommended. If you try any of these light up shoes and your chid’s walking gait doesn’t improve, then I recommend trying an orthotic inside the shoes for extra support.

There is one specific orthotic that I recommend for children with flat feet that has proven to be the most effective one as it provides excellent arch and heel support but it’s not as invasive as other orthotics This mean that this orthotic allows the child’s foot and leg muscles to develop on their own while supporting them.

Please don’t forget to remove the original insoles of your child’s shoes if you decide to try this orthotic for your kids.

This first orthotic will fit children between the ages of 2 to 9, who wears a toddler shoe size 5, all the way up to a big kid shoe size 3.

If you have an older child who wears a shoe size 3 1/2 or above, the orthotic below will accommodate the shape of your child’s feet.

If your child is dealing with foot and leg pain, there are certain sneakers that will help significantly reduce or fully eliminate the pain. I suggest that you take a look at a different article I wrote in which I describe the best sneakers for children with flat feet:
