One of the most common mistakes that I see parents make is to assume that once they figure out their child’s foot size, that size automatically translates into their child’s actual shoe size. Shoes can fit short, long, narrow, or wide, and depending on how they fit you will need to adjust what size you get for your child. As a rule of thumb, we always want to provide children with half a size — 3/16 of an inch or 0.8 centimeters — of space between the longest toe and the end of the shoes.
