Top 5 Shoes for Toddlers with Extra Wide Feet Reviewed – Supportive, Lightweight, Flexible, and Affordable!

Good Shoes For Toddlers

Have you been looking for the perfect pair of shoes for your toddler with extra wide feet? Did you know that the shoes that you choose for your toddler will play a key role in keeping his or her feet healthy?

If you always notice red marks on the top of your toddlers’ feet and find it almost impossible to find shoes to accommodate their extra wide feet with high insteps, then I will show you the 5 widest shoe styles for toddlers.

If the shoes that you buy for your toddler are too narrow, you will end up creating several issues to your toddler’s feet such as blisters, calluses, and corns. What’s even worse, you will also compromise your toddler’s stability and make your toddler more prone to falling down.

The most common mistake I see parents make is assuming that once they provide their toddlers with a pair of shoes that are labeled as extra wide (“XW”), that shoe will automatically fit the shape of their toddler’s feet.

There are two other key factors that the shoes must provide in order to guarantee that they will fit the shape of their feet:

  • Depth: This feature will allow your toddler’s feet to fit deeply inside the shoes and prevent the top part of your toddler’s feet from rubbing against the top part of the shoes.
  • Round Toe-Box: Shoes with a round toe-box will prevent your toddler’s toes from rubbing against the side of the shoes or overlapping one another.

I have been working for a specialized children’s shoe store for over 10 years now, and I know everything that relates to children’s shoes and the way they fit. This is a specialized shoe store that focuses on children with foot and leg problems, but we provide regular shoe fittings as well. We carry some of the most supportive children’s shoes and orthotics, and I am familiar with which shoe brands and which shoe styles are better than others.

For the last 3 years I have been helping parents find the perfect pair of shoes for their kid’s shoes online.

Did you know that most toddlers have wide or extra wide feet? Most parents will come to the store complaining about how their kids’ shoes won’t even go on their feet. I know which shoe styles are deeper and have wider toe-boxes than others from actually having fitted those shoes myself.

Keep in mind that I will show you a selection of shoes for your toddler who is still learning how to walk and another selection of shoes for toddlers who are already walking.

But…

Before you decide to provide your toddler who is learning how to walk with a pair of shoes you must keep this in mind:

Toddlers should go barefoot as often as possible in order to promote good balance, posture coordination, and overall healthy foot development. However, shoes play a key role in keeping their feet and legs healthy when you start taking them outside to the playground or the shopping mall.

There is something important that you need to know:

Children learning how to walk use their toes to grasp the floor and feel more confident every time they talk a step. When we put a shoe in our kids’ feet, they lose that sense they had to the ground, but they do receive important sensory information from the soles of the shoes. That is the reason why I believe that there are certain shoe styles that are better than others. In addition, you must stay away from shoes with hard and inflexible soles, since they will make the whole process of learning how to walk more difficult.

I will provide you with a selection of the top 5 shoes for toddlers with extra wide feet shortly, but first I want to show you what features these shoe styles will provide and how you can figure out your child’s foot size from home.

The Best Toddler Shoes

Extra Wide Shoes for Toddlers – The 5 Most Important Features!

Now let’s take a look at what features the shoe styles I will describe in this article will provide to your toddler’s feet:

❤️ Support: The shoes that you provide for your toddler must be lightweight and flexible, but at the same time supportive in order to minimize the impact their feet receive every time they come in contact with the ground.

❤️ Semi-firm heel counter: This is important in order to provide your toddler with good ankle support. This is especially important for toddlers since most of the time they are performing lateral movements.

❤️ Lightweight:The shoes must be lightweight in order for your child’s feet and legs to not become tired easily.

❤️ Traction: This is also really important since we don’t want your children slipping and falling, especially when they are walking around slippery surfaces.

❤️ Breathable: In order to prevent the build of bacteria and prevent foot odor, the shoes must be breathable.

Keep in mind that it doesn’t matter how many features a particular shoe style provides, if the shoes that you provide for your toddler are not the correct size, your toddler will not get any of the benefits that the shoes have to offer.

The issue is that most local children’s shoe store have been closing down, and we are left with big retailers such as Nordstrom’s or Payless, which don’t do a good job fitting children’s shoes.

I created a map that showcases the best fitting children’s shoe stores by state, so I suggest you start by taking a look at that map:

If after looking at that map you still can’t seem to identify a shoe store in your area, then proceed to taking a look at an article along with a video I created that describes the simplest, yet most effective way to figure out your child’s foot size from home:
