Best Rain Boots for Kids with Narrow Feet – Narrow Toe-Boxes and Narrow Calves!

Children who have narrow feet always have a hard time finding shoes that fit, from regular everyday sneakers to seasonal footwear such as rain boots. The best rain boots for kids with narrow feet provide narrow platforms to accommodate the overall shape of the child’s narrow feet. They should also be narrow around the calves to prevent the boots from rubbing against your child’s calves.
Be Careful About Providing Your Child with Rain Boots That Are Too Wide
When there is too much extra space inside the boots the child’s feet might start moving too much inside the boots, and that constant friction and rubbing between the feet and the boots might lead to foot issues such as blisters. In addition, if the boots are too wide around your child’s calves you might start noticing welts or bruises around your child’s legs:

To prevent this from happening we need to look for a pair of rain boots that are capable of fitting the shape of your child’s narrow feet. The issue is that most rain boots tend to be made on the wider side to begin with, so the selection of rain boots capable of fitting a child with narrow feet is very small to non-existent. The good news is that I know which rain boots are narrower than others from having fitted them before.
What Are the Best Rain Boots for Kids with Narrow Feet?
There are three key features that the rain boots I recommend provide which make them the most effective ones for children with narrow feet:
1️⃣ Narrow Toe-Box: This feature helps prevent your child’s feet from moving too much inside the boots. Let me show you the difference between a pair of rain boots that come with a narrow toe-box versus a pair of rain boots that come with a rounder and wider toe-box:

2️⃣ Narrow around the Calves: This feature is going to prevent your child’s boot from rubbing against your child’s calves. Below you can see the difference between a pair of rain boots for kids with wider calves and a pair of rain boots for kids with narrower calves:

3️⃣ Narrower Platforms: This feature helps accommodate the overall shape of your child’s narrow feet.

The Importance of Wearing Rain Boots that Fit
I mentioned before that rain boots that are too wide can create several issues for your child’s feet such as blisters, calluses, and corns. What I forgot to mention is that rain boots that are too wide can also compromise your child’s stability, making your child more prone to tripping and falling.
Most young children have a hard time walking in rain boots for the simple fact that they tend to be heavier and clunkier compared to their regular shoes. Don’t make things harder on your children by making them maneuver in a pair of boots that are too wide.
How to Retrieve Your Child’s Exact Foot Length and Shape
Since most independent children’s shoe stores have been closing down I created a specific article that helps parents determine their child’s foot size from home by following two simple steps. I created a virtual shoe fitting service that will help you retrieve your child’s shoe size from home.

Are You Confused as to What Rain Boot Size to Order?
It’s important to note that most rain boots are not available in half sizes, they are available in whole sizes only. This means that if your child’s feet measure a size 9 then you have to order the boot in a size 10 to allow for growing room. If your child’s feet measure a size 9 1/2 then you also need to order the boots in a size 10. I hope this makes sense to you.
Should My Child Wear Socks with the Rain Boots?
Children should always wear socks with their rain boots. Ideally, the socks should be long enough to protect their calves, otherwise, I suggest that you tuck your child’s pants inside the rain boots:

Allowing your child to wear rain boots without socks can lead to both your child’s feet and the boots getting smelly and full of bacteria that can exponentially harm them. In addition, not wearing socks with rain boots can lead to your child developing blisters.
Your child’s socks play a key role as they act as a barrier between the feet and the boots, and the socks help absorb any excess moisture, keeping both the feet and boot clean after every use.
How Can I Tell if My Kids’ Rain Boots Are Too Wide?
Sometimes children might speak up and tell you that their feet are moving too much inside the boots, or that the boots keep slipping off their feet. You can also check if the boots visibly look too wide on your child’s feet. For example, do you notice a lot of extra material in the front of the boots? Is there too much extra space around your child’s calves? These are two of the most common signs that the boots might be too wide.
