As a rule of thumb, I always recommend parents to provide their toddlers with 3/16 of an inch or 0.4 centimeters of space between the toddler’s longest toe and the end of the shoes, which usually translates to a shoe that is half a size to a whole size bigger. Please keep in mind that your toddler’s longest toe doesn’t necessarily need to be the big toe, it can be the second or even the third toe.
