Extra Wide Shoes for Girls: The Best Styles for Extra Wide Feet
Last Updated: August 2026 | Juan Valenzuela, Certified Children’s Shoe Fitter
Looking for extra wide shoes for girls that actually fit and feel good? If your daughter constantly complains that shoes pinch her toes or are hard to get on, there’s a good chance she has extra wide feet. Many parents struggle to find shoes that are both stylish and functional for wider feet. The best extra wide shoes for girls offer roomy toe boxes, extra depth, and wide openings — and should come in true extra wide widths, or fit naturally wide. Keep in mind not all wide feet are the same: some girls have a wide forefoot, others have a high instep too, and that changes what actually fits.

As a certified shoe fitter with years of hands-on experience, I’ve helped hundreds of children with extra wide feet find shoes that truly fit — and I’m confident I can help your daughter too.
Does Your Daughter Also Have High Insteps?
Some girls have extra wide feet and a high instep, which makes fitting even harder. The instep is the top part of the foot, and when it’s higher than average, it adds volume that many shoes simply can’t accommodate. If your daughter struggles to get shoes on, or complains about pressure on top of her feet, a high instep could be why.

How to Tell If Your Daughter Needs Extra Wide Shoes
Check her current shoes for signs of pinching or redness first.

Beyond visible marks, listen to her — frequent complaints of foot discomfort, or resisting wearing certain shoes, is often a sign her feet simply don’t have room to breathe.
The Most Common Mistake Parents Make
Assuming any shoe labeled extra wide (XW) will automatically fit. The label is a good start, but it’s not enough on its own — shoes also need extra depth and a genuinely roomy toe box. Without both, even an “extra wide” shoe can still feel tight.
What Actually Makes These Recommendations Work
Extra depth creates more space, prevents squeezing, and allows room for growth — especially important for a high instep.

Rounded toe boxes prevent pinching and give toes room to spread naturally, supporting healthy alignment and reducing bunion risk.

Most shoes aren’t labeled “extra deep” or “round toe box” — that’s the gap I fill. After years of fitting these exact styles at the children’s shoe store where I work, I know which ones deliver, and I can help you order online with confidence. Many of the picks below come in both wide and extra wide; if one isn’t specifically labeled, it’s because it already fits naturally wide.

Looking for Dress Shoes, Not Sneakers?
This comes up constantly — parents looking for Mary Janes, ballet flats, or dressy shoes for a wide-footed daughter, not another pair of sneakers. It’s a legitimately harder search: fewer brands make dress shoes with real width and depth at all. A couple of starting points based on my own fittings: Stride Rite’s Holly Mary Jane above works for both casual and dressier occasions in a true extra wide width. If you’re shopping for a flower girl, holiday outfit, or another dressy occasion and need something more specific, reach out with your daughter’s size and I’ll help track down real options — this is one of the most common requests I get, and I’d rather point you to something that actually exists than leave you searching alone.
Hi,
Thank you for all this info. Do you have any recommendations for a dress shoe for an 8 year old girl with wide feet and high instep? Thank you!
Hello Andrea.
Yes, but I first need to know what shoe size your daughter wears to check what shoes are available in her size.
Hello! I have this same question. Looking for dressy shoes (ballet flats, Mary janes, etc) for both my girls who have high insteps. One is a big kid size 4 extra wide w/ high instep. The other is a toddler size 9 wide with a high instep. Thank you so much!
Hello Lakisha,
The shoes below are for your younger daughter who wears a toddler shoe size 9:
Option 1 Available in extra wide widths
Option 2 Not available in wide widths but fits wide
Option 3 Comes with additional insoles for a wider fit
For your older daughter who wears a shoe size 4:
Option 1 Available in wide widths
Option 2 Available in wide widths
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Please help ! I am a 76 year old who wears a size 3 wide. I need a pair of black/blue flats that don’t look too childish. Payless used to carry such shoes, but their website indicates that they no longer carry wide widths. Land’s End shoes do not fit at all.
Hello Susan,
Have you already tried this specific shoe style by Hush Puppies? Blue Flats It’s available in wide widths (W) so it might be wide enough for your feet.
I’m hoping you can help me! My 5 year old has extra wide feet apparently! I have tried the shoes in this post, plus wide, extra wide, new balance, stride rite, Hey Dude & others. 9 (so far in total). Do you have any other suggestions? I hate for her to wear crocks all year!
Hello Mandy,
I am happy to help, but I suggest that we start by retrieving your daughter’s exact foot length and shape to make sure that you are ordering the shoes in the correct size: How to Measure Your Kids’ Foot – 2 Simple Steps to Determine Foot Length and Foot Width
Do you have any suggestions for a flower girl big kid size 3.5 or 4 that is very dressy?
Hello Carol,
Take a look at the recommendations below. I have fitted children with extra wide feet in these styles but whether they will work for your daughter’s extra wide feet depends on whether she has a high instep or not:
Option 1
Option 2
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Hi!
Me again. Your site is great, really is. I have not problem what so ever i. Teusting your recommendations.
I just wish, that you could recommend SHOES not sneakers. My little girls can not use sneakers every single day, and all their lives (5.5 & 3.5) they have worn Shoes (not ballerinas, flats, or canvas) and once in a while sneakers.
Have you fitted girls for actual shoes, good ahoes with arch support, heel support? I bet you have, sadly I can tell you that in NYC there’s only one store to get fitt d with good shoes. And once they pass the toddler years they only carry Clarks, stride rite, and sneakers. Another children store only carries sneakers.
If you can guide me in a brand though is not an Amazon product I will be extremely thankful. I hate Clarks cause USA models do not come in wide. keds wides aren’t, stride rite are flimpsy shoes and expensive. I’m breaking my head to find good Shoes for girls. And there are none!! Please help me!
Hello Susy,
Please look at my previous response. I will try to create a post where I describe the best shoes with arch support (not sneakers), I just haven’t found the time to do it yet. One of the shoe brands that I recommend are Beeko and Geox also makes shoes with arch support. I will try to get that post out by the end of the week. Take care and let me know how everything works out!
