Is your girl already wearing women’s shoe sizes? Do you always have a hard time finding her shoes that FIT? I have been contacted by several parents asking me which are the best shoes for their girls with large feet who are already in women’s shoe sizes.
I have been fitting children’s shoes and orthotics for ten years at a premier children’s shoe store specializing in proper fit for over forty years. We specialize in children with foot and leg problems, but we provide regular shoe fitting as well. It’s important for us to carry top quality shoes that are available in different widths, since that’s the only way we can guarantee to FIT every single child.
The last girl’s shoe size is 7 and any shoe size above size 7 is considered women’s shoe sizes. I have fitted several young girls that were over a girl shoe size 7 in women’s shoes. We are a children’s shoe store, but we still carry a selection of women’s shoes for those girls who have large feet.
You will notice a big price increase between children’s and women’s shoes, but there is not much we can do about that. However, the shoes I will describe in this article are supportive, lightweight, flexible, and breathable but reasonable priced. Keep in mind that more expensive shoes don’t automatically translate into better shoes for your girl’s feet.
Just so you know, if your girl wears a woman’s shoe size 8 ½ or smaller you can still get the kids’’ version of the shoe for a much lower price. This applies to you as well! If you wear a woman’s shoe size 8 ½ or smaller you will be able to get the kids’ version of the shoe and save a lot of money!
You might be wondering, how is this possible? A women’s shoe size 8 ½ or smaller translates to a girl shoe size 7 (which is the last children’s shoe size).
While I can’t get into too much detail about this conversion in this post, you should read an article I wrote where I explain this in more detail:
I will describe in this article the best shoes for girls who are in women’s shoe sizes. The shoes I will describe are supportive (so your child can wear them as his everyday shoes), lightweight, flexible and breathable.
I also like to review shoes that are available in different widths such as medium, wide, and extra wide to make sure they will fit all children, no matter the shape of their feet.
I want you to remember this: It doesn’t matter how narrow or how wide your kids’’ feet are, there is at least one shoe style out there that will fit the shape of their feet perfectly and I will help you find it!
What Features Do We Want In Our Children’s Shoes?
We will be looking into woman’s shoes for your child, but these shoes must provide certain features in order to keep your kids’’ feet and legs healthy. Some of these features are:
- Supportive: In order for your child to be able to wear these shoes all day, the shoes must provide enough support to reduce the impact that our kids’’ feet take every time they come in contact with the ground.
- Lightweight: While we do want our kids’’ shoes to be supportive, they must be lightweight at the same time. Shoes that are too stiff and heavy will make your kids’’ feet and legs tired.
- Flexible: A flexible shoe will allow your child to perform at his best when running around or playing sports.
- Breathable: It’s important for shoes to be breathable in order to prevent the build-up of bacteria inside the shoe and also prevent foot odors.
- Traction: Shoes must provide good traction to prevent your child from slipping and falling down.
- Firm heel counter: The heel counter is the back part of the shoe that provides ankle support. The firmer it is the better, since it will cushion and support your kids ankles and prevent injuries.
If we find a shoe that provides all of these features, your child will be good to go! However, you must make sure you provide your child with the correct shoe size or your child won’t get any of the benefits that the shoes have to offer.
I always recommend parents to take their children to their local kids’’ shoe store where a shoe fitter can properly measure their feet and find shoes accordingly, but I have been contacted by several parents who don’t have a local shoe store in their area and must purchase their kids’ shoes online.
If you are one of those parents, please take a look at a post I wrote where I describe the most effective way to make sure your child is wearing the correct shoe size:
If after reading that article you still have doubts about how to properly find out your correct kids’ shoe size, please let me know I will clarify your doubts. A shoe that doesn’t fit the shape of your kids properly will lead to several foot issues as well as foot and leg pain.
Girls In Women’s Shoe Sizes – The Secret Revealed!
I will describe below the best shoes for girls who are already in women’ shoe sizes. I have fitted all of these shoe styles before so I am not only familiar with the type of features these shoes provide, but also with the way they fit. Remember that shoes can fit short, long, narrow, or wide.
The most common mistake that parents make is to assume that because their children’s feet measure a certain number in the shoe measuring device, that number automatically translates to their actual shoe size. This usually tends to their kids’’ wearing the wrong shoe size and leads to all sort of foot issues such as blisters, calluses, and corns which are really hard to get rid of.
For example, if your girl measures a shoe size 7 in the measuring device, it doesn’t mean she will automatically need a shoe size 7 in all shoes. Normally we always want to go a half a size bigger in order to leave a certain amount of growing room. However, if that particular shoe runs short, then she will need a shoe size 8 (a whole size bigger in order to leave growing room).
Now that you know how to make sure your child is wearing the correct shoe size please find below a selection of the best shoes for girls who are already in women’s shoe sizes!
Please keep in mind that if your girl has extra wide feet I would recommend any of the New Balance shoes (last two options from the left) since they tend to have a much rounder, and wider toed-box. The Asics shoes I describe above do come in wide and extra wide widths, but they tend to have a more pointer, narrower toed box than the New Balance shoe styles.
The first two shoes made by Asics tends to fit short, which means that you will have to provide your child with a whole size bigger of whichever shoe size he measured in the shoe measuring device in order to allow for growing room.
The last two shoes made by New Balance fits true to size, which means that you only need to go a half a size bigger of the size your child measured in the shoe measuring scale in order to leave growing room.
Remember that fits remains our top priority , so if you are not 100% sure about how a certain shoe style fits please do not hesitate to contact me and I will make sure your child is wearing the correct shoe size.
Now that you know which are the best shoes for girls in women’s shoe sizes, you are ready to make the most informative decision!
Don’t forget about the importance of providing your child with a good pair of socks. They act as barrier between our kids’ feet and the shoes and prevent the buildup of bacteria inside the shoe. Some girl’s can’t stand how socks feel and choose not to wear them with their shoes, but it’s important to explain them how they should always wear socks with their shoes.
Seamless socks are great specially if your child can’t stand how socks feel. Some children feel every lump and bump so seamless socks are great for those type of kids.
While I can’t get into too much detail about the importance of wearing socks in this article, take a look at another post I wrote where I explain this in more detail:
