Kids’ Wide Snow Boots – The Best Snow Boots for Kids with Wide or Extra Wide Feet!

Do you feel at a loss trying to find a pair of snow boots for your child who has wide or extra wide feet? Ill-fitting boots can lead to discomfort, cold feet, and even potential foot problems. The wide boots for kids that I recommend provide enough room for the toes to move freely, allowing for natural foot movement and accommodating thicker winter socks, which are essential for warmth and comfort. I am going to show you a list of the most popular shoe brands that make kids’ wide snow boots.

You Don’t Have to Fit Your Child in Sneakers This Winter Season!

Some parents have no choice but to fit their children in sneakers during the winter because they couldn’t find a single pair of snow boots that fit. This might sound like an exaggeration to some parents but I have seen this happen before, especially when children have a high instep as well as wide feet.

I have helped these children find the perfect pair of snow boots for their feet, and I believe I will be able to help your child as well. While there are only a few wide snow boots available for kids with wide or extra wide feet, all you need is one pair of boots that fit your child’s feet properly to keep your child’s feet and legs healthy during the winter season.

Key Features to Look for in Wide Boots for Kids

1. Round Toe-Boxes: This feature is going to help prevent your child’s toes from rubbing against one another or the side of the boots. Boots with round toe-boxes help prevent blisters, callouses, and corns.

An example of a boot (Merrell) with a rounder toe-box versus a boot with a narrow toe-box (Primigi).

2. Extra Depth: They provide extra depth to fit a child with a high instep. This feature is going to help prevent the top part (instep) of your child’s feet from rubbing against the top part of the boots. This is also an awesome feature if you usually struggle to get your child’s boots on and off.

3. Oversized Openings for Easy On and Off: This feature makes it easier for parents and children to get their boots on and off. Children with chubby feet have a hard time slipping into boots that don’t easily open. You will notice that the boots I recommend open up widely, which makes it easier for children and parents to get the boots on and off.

Wide Width Boots for Kids

Most of my boot recommendations are not available in wide or extra wide widths, but they all fit naturally wide. New Balance used to make a specific boot that was available in wide widths but it’s out of stock right now.

When fitting boots, have your child wear the socks they will typically use during winter to ensure a proper fit. This ensures that the boots have enough room to accommodate thicker winter socks without being too tight. How to Order the Correct Snow Boot Size Online

I can help you determine your child’s exact foot shape (wide, extra wide, high instep), and the exact shoe size you should order online with a virtual shoe fitting service I provide for free.

Keep in mind that snow boots don’t come in half sizes, they come in whole sizes only. I always recommend rounding up to the larger size. For example, if your child happens to measure a foot size 10 ½, then I recommend providing your child with a boot size 11. If your child measures a foot size 10, then I recommend providing the child with a shoe size 11 as well.

Winter Socks for Kids – Let’s Keep Your Kids’ Feet Healthy

Socks play a key role in keeping your kids’ feet healthy, as they act as a barrier between your kids’ feet and the shoes, and they also prevent the formation and the build-up of bacteria inside the shoes.

An image of a family wearing warm and breathable winter socks.

One of the most common mistakes that parents make is to assume that thicker socks automatically translate into warmer socks. Thicker socks don’t always translate into warmer or better socks for your child, as they might lead to your child’s feet sweating excessively inside the boots and making your child’s feet damp. I usually suggest breathable socks that are warm at the same time.

Is It Safe to Pass Snow Boots to Other Kids?

Parents often ask for neutral colors when looking for snow boots to pass them to their other kids, and this makes a lot of sense. Snow boots and rain boots are the only type of footwear that I feel comfortable with being passed on. The main reason for this is that they are both worn for very short periods of time and they conserve their original shape.

Final Thoughts On Wide Snow Boots for Kids

Snow boots are the type of footwear that your child might wear only for a couple of times a year and for very short periods of time. This often leads to parents not putting a lot of thought into the type of snow boots that they provide for their children. You might want to rethink that. It only takes a couple of wears in a poorly fitted snow boot for your child to develop a foot issue such as a blister, callous, or corn.

Please make sure that you provide your child with the correct pair of snow boots. Providing children with footwear that doesn’t fit the shape of their feet will lead to numerous issues that involve blisters, calluses, and corns.
