Your children might also make some of their best friends along the way. Most importantly, playing a sport will give them a high sense of being a good team player, and believe me that is a skill that will get them very far in life!

I have been working for a specialized children’s shoe store focusing in proper fit for over forty years. IMPORTANT: when your child is at the store trying a pair of sport shoes, always make your child tries them on with the same exact type of socks that he or she will wear when playing the game.

Soccer – Help Your Children Score Goals!
When children play soccer, they are stressing out their feet and legs at a whole different level since they are running faster and making sudden moves and stops. I have seen several cases of children having knee and leg pain after playing soccer, and mostly this is simply due to the fact that they are not wearing the correct pair of cleats.
Did you know that there is a particular soccer cleat style that comes in wide and extra wide widths?
One of the most common mistakes I see parents make is that they buy longer shoes for their kids with wide or extra wide feet in order to compensate for the width. This can lead to your children injuring themselves on the field since running in a shoe that is too long will compromise your child’s stability.
The soccer cleat style that I recommend provides great traction, is flexible at the top, and comes with a firm heel counter to protect and support your kids ‘ankles.
Playing soccer in a cleat that is too narrow will lead to several foot issues such as blisters, calluses, corns, ingrown toenails as well as foot and leg pain.

When your child is playing basketball or engaging in a competitive sport that requires running at a faster speed, the risk of injuries on the field increase.
Wearing the correct pair of basketball shoes will minimize the chance of injuries in the field. Sport related shoes play a huge role in keeping our kids feet and legs healthy. A basketball shoes must have two features in order to provide your child with the appropriate support:
- A very firm heel counter: This is what provides ankle support and protects your kids’ ankles from getting injured.
- Good arch support:This will protect the feet every time your child is landing after jumping.

Baseball – Help Your Children Knock that Ball Out of the Park!
When children are playing baseball, they are putting pressure on their feet and knees by accelerating quickly and sliding. If they are not wearing the correct pair of baseball cleats, this increased impact may not only end up not only hurting their feet, but also make them more prone to injuries.
Baseball cleats always fit more narrow than regular sneakers, since they are made to fit the shape of the athlete’s foot. That is the reason why it is so important to find cleats that are wide enough!
These cleats will significantly boost your kid’s efficiency. They might not automatically make them better baseball players, but they will definitely allow them to play at their best!
You won’t have to worry about your kids’ toes being cramped inside the shoes. It’s time to realize that getting the right pair of baseball cleats is critical for keeping your kids’ feet healthy and allow them to play comfortably!

Football – Help Your Children Make that Touchdown!
Let me start by talking about the importance of your children wearing cleats when your they are playing football.
I have spoken with many football coaches, and they all agree that children that don’t wear cleats tend to slip and fall when the grass is wet which puts them at risk of injuries, being stepped on or just getting hurt from the fall itself.
They all emphasized how they have seen children get hurt from NOT wearing cleats but have yet to see one injured due to wearing them. That’s why it’s so important to wear a pair of cleats that FITS and also that provides good traction!
In summary, the football cleat that we provide for our child must provide excellent traction, support, durability and breathability.
If your child is ready to start playing football but has a wide or an extra wide foot, you can find the best type of football cleats that are also available in wide widths:
How To Fit Your Kids’ Sport Shoes Perfectly!
When shoes are not fitted properly, they directly contribute to foot injuries. A shoe that is fitted too long has the same consequences as a shoe fitting too short. Let me show you two examples below:
- If shoes are fitted too long, they will have a direct impact on your child’s stability and make him or her more prone to falling down, especially when playing high speed sports, where you have to run fast and engage in quick direction changes. The other consequence of the shoes being too long is it will most likely mean that there is too much extra space around the ankles, which may cause the ankles to roll, twist, or turn in an awkward way.
- Shoes that are fitted too short may have a negative impact on your child’s foot as well. Sport players makes sudden stops all the time. If the shoe is fitted too short, it might not only make your child more prone to falling but the it will cramp the toes, causing all sort of problems such as bunions, calluses, corns, and ingrown nails.
Not wearing the appropriate sport shoes will lead not only to foot and ankle problems, but leg, hip, and back pain as well. Keep in mind that alignment begins with your feet and moves up to influence the rest of your body. Remember that the use a well fitted shoe will be the best way of protecting your child’s ankles and feet from getting injured.
I always recommend parents to take their kids to their local kids’ shoe store, where a shoe fitter will be able to properly measure his or her feet. However, several parents have contacted me and have told me that they don’t have a children’s shoe store in their area that they trust.
Please keep in mind that finding the correct pair of shoes will ensure that your child has a happy and healthy sport season!
