Wide Baseball Cleats for Kids in Men’s Shoe Sizes

Have you been researching for wide baseball cleats for your son and the only brand you were able to find that comes in wide widths is New Balance? Have you checked online and sporting goods stores such as Dicks, Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour but you always end up empty-handed? Are you getting to the point where your child might have to wear sneakers to his games instead of cleats? I am here to help. I know which baseball cleats are available in men’s shoe sizes that are capable of accommodating a wide or an extra wide foot ( and high insteps as well).

Are Your Son’s Feet Wide or Extra Wide?

I get a ton of emails from parents asking me if I can recommend brands or specific styles that make wide or double-wide baseball cleats for boys in men’s shoe sizes, so hopefully this resource will answer most of those families’ concerns. These families are concerned that their children might not be able to play if they can’t find the right shoes.

Some of these families believe that their children’s feet are wide when in fact they might be extra wide. The instep (top part of the foot) also plays a key when determining what specific width to get.

Can Baseball Cleats Make Your Son a Better Player?

No, but when baseball cleats fit the feet just right, they boost confidence and stability. A pair that’s too snug, particularly in the width, can pinch, causing discomfort, and in the worst cases, blisters and other foot issues. We want your child to be able to focus on the game without any distractions, without pinches and pain distracting his performance.

Which Are My Go-To Shoe Brands for Kids with Wide Feet?

I am going to show you which specific shoe brands have worked best throughout my many years of shoe fitting experience. However, don’t jump the gun and order shoes right away from these shoe brands, as I am going to show you which specific styles among these shoe brands are wider than others.

1️⃣ New Balance offers baseball cleats that come in true wide widths. Their cleats are praised for their durability and range of size options, including wide and extra-wide widths.

2️⃣ Under Armour also offers some models in wide widths. However, the toe-boxes of the baseball cleats are not as round or deep compared to New Balance.

3️⃣ Adidas has some specific styles that are more forgiving in width. While the shoes are not available in wide or extra wide widths, they fit naturally wide.

Let’s Take a Look at My Specific Baseball Cleat Recommendations

This list of wide baseball cleats for older kids in men’s shoe sizes has been put together based on the shoes I have fitted at the store I work for and also after doing extensive research online. All of these recommendations have worked well for children with wide feet and high insteps. They have also worked for some children with extra wide feet. The wide sizes tend to sell out pretty quickly so don’t hesitate to contact me if you can’t find the cleats available in your son’s shoe size. Also, keep in mind that when it comes to shoes, what might work really well for some children, might not work as well for others. So, have your child test the cleats inside your house (with the same socks he will play), to make sure that they feel comfortable.

Is Your Child “In Between Kids’ and Men’s Shoe Sizes”?

Some families struggle when their players wear a shoe size that falls “in-between” kids’ and adult shoe sizes. For example, the largest youth shoe size is typically a size 6 or 6 1.2, and the smallest men’s shoe size is typically a size 7 1/2. if you are confused as to what shoe size you should order you can ask your questions in the comments section below or contact me directly via email.

If you are unsure about your son’s exact shoe size (foot shape and length), I can help you figure this out in a different resource I created. In two simple steps, you will be able to determine your son’s exact foot shape (wide or extra wide), and foot length (to know what shoe size you should order).

Common Signs Your Child’s Cleats Are Too Narrow

Watch for any redness or irritation on the sides of their feet after playing. If the cleats leave indentations on the top part of your son’s feet, they’re likely too narrow. Also, if your child continually complains about discomfort while playing, it’s a red flag that their cleats might be the culprit. Having trouble getting the cleats on and off is also a sign that the cleats might be too narrow.

Local Shoe Stores or Online Shoe Shopping?

If you’re inclined to visit a local shoe store, take advantage of the opportunity to try on different pairs. This hands-on approach is invaluable since it allows for immediate feedback on fit and comfort. For online shopping, the key is knowing what you’re looking for. The convenience of filtering through sizes, widths, and brands from your home can’t be overstated.

How to Check If Your Kids’ Baseball Cleats Are Actually Available in Wide Widths?

Men’s shoes are often labeled D for standard width, E for wide, and 2E or 4E for extra-wide. Please always check the tag inside the shoes to make sure that you received the correct shoe size. You have no idea how many times children wore shoes that were different sizes or different widths without even knowing it. This usually happens when you buy shoes online, as sizes can easily get mixed up.

Is It Safe for Your Child to Wear Metal Cleats?

Check with your coach as metal cleats might not be allowed. You can also consult the league and tournament rules to ensure they are allowed. In my experience, most youth leagues don’t allow metal spikes until level 13U for safety reasons.

Can Your Child Wear Soccer Cleats for Baseball?

Let’s set the record straight: while soccer cleats may seem like a convenient substitute, baseball requires cleats tailored to its unique demands. Baseball cleats have a toe cleat, which is essential for providing the grip needed during activities like batting and fielding. Soccer cleats lack this feature, and that can affect performance and increase the risk of slipping on the field. If your coach allows your son to wear soccer instead of baseball cleats, then additional shoe options might open up.

I hope you find this resource helpful! I understand how stressful it can be for parents to not be able to provide their children with comfortable shoes, so I hope I made things a little easier for you.
