Have you been looking for an extra wide boot for your child? When a child has extra wide feet, it makes it really complicated to find shoes that FIT. I wrote posts about the best extra wide sneakers, dress shoes, and sandals for kids, and now I wanted to create a post about the best extra wide boots for kids.
Several parents have asked me if boots in extra wide widths actually existed, since they have gone crazy looking for a pair of boots for their kids.
I have been fitting children’s shoes and orthotics for ten years at a premier children’s shoe store specializing in proper fit for over forty years. We specialize in children with foot and leg problems, but we provide regular shoe fitting as well. It’s important for us to carry top quality shoes that are available in different widths, since that’s the only way we can guarantee to FIT every single child.
I have seen several children come to the store with blisters, calluses, and corns from wearing shoes that are too narrow.
Even though boots are a piece of footwear that kids are supposed to wear for a couple of hours only once in a while, it is important to find the correct boot style that comes in the correct width.
If your child’s boot is not wide enough, it can lead to the development of blisters, calluses, and corns. This will affect the way your children walk because it will impact their walking pattern, which will lead them to put pressure on incorrect parts of their body. This can in turn lead to children developing foot, knee, back, and leg pain.
Calluses and corns are extremely hard to get rid of, so it’s important to prevent them! Something as simple as providing your children with the correct pair of shoes will keep their feet and legs healthy.
Please remember this: It doesn’t matter how wide or how narrow your kids’ feet are, there is a shoe style out there that will FIT the shape of their perfectly and I will help you find it!
It is really frustrating when parents say that their kids can’t wear a certain type of footwear because their feet are “too wide”. Please do your research before you decide to not provide your child with a pair of basic footwear such as a pair of boots.
I have fitted extra wide feet in rain boots, sandals, sneakers, dress shoes, cleats… you name it!
In this post, I will describe the best extra wide boots for kids!
The Consequences Of Wearing Shoes That Are Too Narrow!
Even though your child may only wear his or her boots once in a while for a couple of hours, it only takes a couple of wears to develop a blister. Once your child develops a blister, it can form into a corn, and corns are incredibly hard to get rid of.
Have you ever had to deal with a blister on your foot? I have, and how I had to adjust the way I was walking or running in order to not put pressure in that particular area of my foot. This lead me to change my walking pattern.
Your children will also have to change their walking pattern, and this means they will be putting pressure on parts of their body where they are not supposed to! This will lead to foot and leg pain.
You can avoid all of these foot issues by providing your child with a pair of shoes that actually FIT!
While your child might only wear these boots once in a while for a short period of time, you might live in an area where the weather requires that your child wears the boot on a daily basis.
This is fine, as long as the boot provides enough support, but you must also have a pair of sneakers in order to alternate footwear. Let’s first decide which type of boot you need for your child.
What Type Of Boot Are You Looking For Your Child?
There are three different types of boots:
- Snow boots
- Hiking Boots
- Rain Boots
The most popular style is the hiking boot, since it’s the most versatile of the three. Your child can wear a hiking boot for longer periods of time and walk longer distances in them.
There are certain types of hiking boots that come with a substantial, supportive sole with great traction. However, one of the most important features a hiking boot must provide is to be waterproofed. This will guarantee that your child’s feet will remain warm and DRY.
If you find a hiking boot that provides all of these features, your child is good to go!
Now, we do need the hiking boot to fit a child with an extra wide feet, but don’t worry! I have fitted hiking boots for children with extra wide feet before and I will show you exactly which styles these are.
