Has your child been asking you to buy them a pair of high heel boots? As girls grow up, they start asking for more “fancy” looking shoes, and most of the time they are shoes with high heels!
Parents must know that any type of shoe with high heels can become problematic, since they compromise your child’s stability and make her more prone to falls and injuries. Also, keep in mind that any shoe with a high heel will limit your child to wear it infrequently and for a couple of hours at a time at maximum.
I always emphasize to parents how important it is to provide our kids with what I like to call “functional shoes”. Functional shoes always serve a purpose. For example, dress boots are great shoe for your child to wear for fun when going to the shopping mall or the movies, but waterproof dress boots serve a much more important purpose, since your child can still have fun in them while enjoying warmth and protection during cold and rainy days.
I have been working for achildren’s shoe store for over 7 years now, where we specialized in children with foot and leg problems. All the footwear that we sell is made out of high quality materials, supportive, and comes in different widths because NOT all children’s feet are the same!
I have fitted several high heel boots for kids and there is a small selection that will provide more support and more stability to your child’s feet than others.
If your child keeps asking you for high heel shoe, providing her with a pair of high heel boots is the safest way to go. For example, high heel dress shoes limit our children to wear them for special occassions every once in a while and for very short periods of time. High heel boots are easier to walk in and can be used for different activities. Now you can provide your child with the fun shoes she always wanted with the peace of mind that she won’t trip and fall.
In this post I describe the best high heel boots for girls!
Are You Scared Of Providing Your Child With High Heel Shoes?
Most parents are skeptical with the idea of buying their kids high heel shoes because they are scared that something might happen to them, and I totally get it… I wouldn’t want to provide my children with a pair of shoes that might put them at risk of falling and injuring themselves.
While there is no set age for a child to start wearing high heel shoes, it’s important to make sure your child is ready to learn how to walk in them. For example, you want to teach your child never to run in high heels, so it’s important that your child is old enough to follow instructions.
The shoes must also be fitted properly. It’s hard enough learning how to walk in a high heel shoe. Providing your child with a shoe that is too long, too short, or too narrow will make the learning experience that much harder!
Parents must know that kids bones are still forming and developing between the ages of 3 and 12 years old, , that is why we must provide them with shoes that provide good support and stability.
Allowing your child to wear high heel shoes for long periods of time puts them at risk of developing foot issues. I always recommend that parents wait until their kids are around 12 to start wearing high heel shoes, and most children start wearing them around that age. Use your good parenting judgment to decide when your child is ready to start wearing high heel shoes.
The Safest High Heel Shoes For Kids! – Learn The Secret!
From all of the different types of high heel shoes, high heel boots are one of the easiest and safest to wear, as long as they are fitted properly. Do you know how to make sure your child is wearing the correct shoe size?
I always recommend that parents take their kids to their local children’s shoe store, where a shoe fitter can properly measure their feet and find shoes that fit PROPERLY.
The main issue is that most parents don’t have a local children’s shoe store to have their kids’ feet properly measured and their shoes properly fitted. They end up taking them to big retail stores where they don’t really know how to properly measure kids shoes.
For those parents, I wrote a post where I describe how to make sure your child is wearing the correct shoe size, and you can find that post below!
Once you know how to properly figure out your kids shoe size, you can move to finding the correct pair of shoes for your child. If you are not sure whether to provide your child with a pair of high heel boots or a pair of regular high heel dress shoes, you should take a look at the post I wrote where I describe the best high heels for kids with wide feet here:
The Best High Heel Boots For Kids! – Choose Them Wisely!
As I mentioned before, it’s extremely important that the shoes you provide for your child are the correct size. This means getting the correct shoe size length wise AND width wise. Shoes that are too narrow will create all sort of foot problems to your child such as blisters, calluses and corns.
I have spoken with a number of parents who refrain from providing their kids with certain shoe styles because they say that the shoes don’t run wide enough. I can tell you with confidence that after fitting children’s shoes for over 7 years, it doesn’t matter how wide or narrow your child’s foot is, there is a particular shoe style that will the shape of your kids’feet.
The other day I spoke with a father who told me how his child was excited to starting playing soccer, but kept having blisters because they couldn’t find a soccer cleat that came wide enough for his feet. The father told me how he had to purchase a longer soccer cleat to compensate for the width.I explained to the father how he should NEVER refrain from providing his child with a particular shoe style just because he wasn’t able to find it.
The particular shoe style for your child’s unique feet does exist! For example, I wrote a post where I describe the best soccer cleats for kids with extra wide feet here:
My point is that it doesn’t matter what sport or activity your child is involved in, please make sure that you provide your child with the correct shoe size because the particular shoe for that particular activity DOES EXIST!
Now, when it comes to high heel boots for children, there is a certain selection that will be better for your kids’ feet. This means that the heel of the boot will not be as high, but theywill still look appealing to your kids. Also, the ones I describe below are made of quality materials and come with either a zipper or a velcro strap to provide more stability.
Below you can find a selection of the best kids high heel boots!
If your child has medium to a wide width feet, you should select the Stride Rite styles. However, if your child has a narrow to medium width feet you should select the other boot styles.
All of these shoe styles fit “true to size”,which means that you need a half a size longer of the size that your child measures in the shoe measuring scale in order to allow for growing room.
Should You Provide Your Child With High Heel Boots Or Not?
Use your best parenting judgment to decide if your child is ready to start wearing high heel shoes. I wrote this post to inform parents about the most appropriate time for kids to start wearing high heel shoes, but remember that each child is different.
If your child has been asking you for high heel shoes for a long time, there are certain guidelines you must follow to minimize and prevent foot injuries. Remember that it all starts by choosing the correct shoe size. Also, a high heel boot will always be so much safer than a high heel shoe.
Imagine yourself walking in shoes that are too long or too short, especially high heel shoes. Would you be able to maintain your balance? I believe that the answer from most parents would be NO, so you shouldn’t expect your child to be able to walk comfortably in high heel shoes that don’t fit properly.
NEVER underestimate the importance of well-fitting shoes, since they will make a tremendous difference not only in keeping your kids feet and legs healthy, but also in improving the way they walk!
I provided you with a selection of the best fitting and most functional kids’ high heel boots. Make sure your child can walk comfortably in them before you let them try them outside the house, since most stores won’t allow you to return the shoes if they have been worn outside!
