Have you been looking for a pair of wide slip on shoes for your child? Do you feel like every time you try a slip on shoe your child complains that is too tight? This might be a sign that your child has wide feet or that the slip on shoe is too narrow.
I have been helping parents find the correct type of shoes for their kids online for the last three years. It doesn’t matter what type of shoes you are looking for your child, I have fitted a large selection of shoes and I will make sure we find the correct type for your child’s unique feet.
I want you to remember one thing, it doesn’t matter how wide or how narrow your kids’ feet are, there is at least one particular shoe style out there that will fit the shape of his or her feet perfectly and I will HELP YOU find it.
Why am I so sure I will be able to help you find that particular shoe style for your child?
I have been fitting children’s shoes and orthotics for ten years at a premier children’s shoe store specializing in proper fit for over forty years. We specialize in children with foot and leg problems, but we provide regular shoe fitting as well. It’s important for us to carry top quality shoes that are available in different widths, since that’s the only way we can guarantee to FIT every single child.
I decided to create this post since several parents have contacted me asking if I know about which slip on shoes will fit a child with wide or extra wide feet.
When it comes to fitting children in shoes, slip on shoes are not my favorite kind. The main reason is that you can’t leave the same amount of growing room in a slip on shoe as you would in a pair of everyday shoes. This happens because slip on shoes don’t come with a velcro closure or anything that will hold your child’s feet in place, meaning that you need to fit them “heel to toe” or they will fall off your kids’feet.
Slip on shoes provide several advantages and the most popular one is how they allow your children to easy put the shoes on and take them off by themselves. So if you have been looking for a pair of wide slip on shoes for your child, I will provide you with a selection of the better made and more supportive ones in this post.
Wide Slip On Shoes – Do They Exist?
Shoes that are too narrow will not only be uncomfortable for your child to wear, but they will also lead to several foot issues as well as foot and leg pain. If your child has wide feet, you must provide him or her with the correct shoe width in order to prevent the formation of blisters, calluses, and corns.
Do wide slip on shoes for children EXIST? Yes they do, and I have fitted them before at the children’s shoe store that I work for. One common mistake parents make when their kids complain about the shoes feeling too tight is trying a longer shoe in order to compensate for the width. Please STOP doing this since you will end up compromising your child’s stability and making him or her more prone to falling down.
Never settle for shoes that are too narrow, like I mentioned before, there is at least one shoe style out there that will fit the shape of your kids’ feet perfectly and I will help you find it.
But finding a pair of slip on shoes that come in the correct shoe width it’s not the only factor we must take into consideration, the shoes must also provide several other features to keep our kids’ feet healthy and I will describe them below.
Slip On Shoes Important Features– Support And Stability!
The feature that parents love the most about slip on shoes is how their kids are able to put the shoes on and off by themselves. This is important for parents how are always rushing out the door and are always trying to save some time.
One thing I want you to consider is that slip on shoes are not meant to be worn as everyday shoes. The main reason is that they don’t provide the same amount of support or stability, so I always recommend parents limiting their children to wear them for a maximum of 6 hours a day and then switching back to their sneakers.
There are three important features we must look for when buying our kids’ slip on shoes:
- Firm heel counter: The heel counter of the shoe is the back part of the shoe and the firmer it is the better. This is the part of the shoe that keeps our kids’ ankles healthy by securing and supporting them.
- Good traction: The bottom of the shoe must provide great traction, so our kids can feel stable and secure when walking or running around.
- Flexibility: Besides providing those two important features a pair of slip on shoes must be flexible in order for our kids’ feet to not get tired when walking or running around.
I want you to remember one thing: It doesn’t matter how many features a particular pair of shoes has to provide, if they are not the correct size, your child will not get any of the benefits that the shoes have to offer. Even worse, you will be creating all sort of issue to your kids’ feet such as the formation of blisters, calluses, and corns.
How Can You Make Sure Your Kids’ Shoes Are The Correct Size?
I always explain to parents the importance of taking their children to their local kids’ shoe store that they TRUST, in order for them to be properly fitted for shoes. A shoe fitter will make sure your child gets the correct shoe size and wears the correct shoe style.
The issue is that most children’s shoe stores have been closing down, and parents have to end up buying their kids’ shoes online. There is nothing wrong with this, but I want to provide you with a set of guidelines that you can follow in order to guarantee that your child is wearing the correct shoe size.

Now that you know how to make sure your child is wearing the correct shoe size and what features must a good pair of slip on shoes must provide to your child, let’s take a look at a selection of the best slip on shoes for wide feet.
Slip On Shoes For Wide Feet – The Secret Revealed!
Here you can find selection of the best wide slip on shoes for children that I have fitted before and I am familiar with not only how they fit, but also the features that have to provide.
This selection of shoes all fit “true to size”which means that you only need to go a half a size longer of the size that your child measures in the shoe measuring scale in order to allow for growing room. Keep in mind that 50% of the time I end up inserting a tongue pad inside a slip on shoe in order to make it FIT better. A tongue pad is an adhesive-backed pad that goes in the tongue of the shoe and it pushes your kids’ heels back in order to secure them against the shoe.
If your children are complaining about their shoes slipping every time they walk, TRY a tongue pad! You will be amazed about the huge difference a tongue pad will make. While I can’t get into too much detail about the importance of tongue pads in this post, take a look at an article I wrote where I describe them in more detail:
