Have you been looking for a pair of durable, supportive, lightweight, flexible, and breathable shoes for your child? Tsukihoshi is one of my favorite children’s shoe brands as they manufacture some of the most comfortable children’s shoes that are also machine washable and come with antibacterial insoles. These shoes are also great for children who have wide or extra wide feet with high insteps and want to try shoes in exciting colors. I have put together a list of the best Tsukihoshi kids’ shoes based on my many years of shoe fitting experience.
Tsukihoshi has perfected its line of children’s shoes by working closely with orthopedic specialists and their main focus is the health, protection and comfort of kids’ feet.
What Makes Tsukihoshi Shoes Stand Out From Other Shoe Brands?
Tsukihoshi differentiates itself from other traditional shoe brands such as New Balance, Saucony, and Stride Rite in the sense that their shoes are extremely soft and well-padded, which makes their shoes some of the most comfortable ones for kids. However, among this shoe brand, certain shoe brands are better than others, and those are the ones I will describe shortly.
Most parents of children with wide or extra wide feet always have to buy the same shoe brands such as New Balance, Saucony, or Stride Rite. While these 3 shoe companies manufacture some of the best shoes for children with wide or extra wide feet, sometimes children want to try new shoes in new and exciting colors.
What Types of Foot Shapes Can Tsukihoshi Fit?
This shoe brand is capable of fitting children with medium, wide, or extra wide feet, but it won’t fit children with narrow feet.

There are two important features that Tsukihoshi shoes provide and most other shoe companies don’t, which I believe is the main reason why their shoes are so comfortable and accommodate so many different foot shapes:
1️⃣ Extra Depth: This feature allows the child’s feet to fit deeply inside the shoes, preventing the top part of your child’s feet (instep), from rubbing against the top part of the shoes. This feature also helps prevent the top part of your kids’ toes from rubbing against the top front part of the shoes, and this is important as this is how most children get blisters on their toes.
2️⃣ Rounder Toe-Boxes: This feature helps prevent your kids’ toes from overlapping against each other or rubbing against the side of the shoes. Kids love to be able to spread their toes comfortably.
My Experience Fitting Children’s Shoes – Over a Decade of Shoe Fitting Experience!
I have been fitting children’s shoes and orthotics for 10 years at a children’s shoe store that specializes in helping children with “complicated” foot shapes as well as foot and leg problems, but we provide regular shoe fittings as well. Over the years I became familiar with which are the best kids’ shoe brands from having fitted them before.

Not all Tsukihoshi shoes provide the same amount of support and comfort, and as with every other shoe brand, certain styles are better than others. The good news is that I know exactly which shoe Tsukihoshi shoes are better than others, and I will help you find them.
Because most Tsukihoshi shoe styles are supportive, deep and come with a removable insole, they can accommodate customized orthotics (only certain styles).
Before I provide you with a selection of the best Tsukihoshi kids’ shoes, I want to make sure that you know your child’s foot width. You won’t be able to order the correct shoe size online if you don’t know what your child’s foot size is to begin with.

I always recommend parents take their children to their local children’s shoe store that they trust, the issue is that most stores have been closing down and parents need to end up buying their kids’ shoes online. There is nothing wrong with this, but you must know your child’s exact foot size to know what size to order.
Are you 100% Sure that you know your Child’s Exact Foot Size?
I created a resource that showcases the best-fitting children’s shoe stores by state, so I suggest you start by taking a look at that map:
The Best Kids’ Shoe Stores in the United States – Where To Go for Proper Fittings
How to Retrieve Your Child’s Exact Foot Length and Shape
If after looking at that resource you still can’t seem to identify a shoe store in your area, then proceed to take a look at an article I created that describes the simplest, yet most effective way to figure out your child’s foot size from home:
How to Measure Your Kids’ Foot – 2 Simple Steps to Determine Foot Length and Foot Width
In that article I help parents determine their child’s exact foot size and whether the child has narrow, medium, wide, or extra wide feet. I also will be able to tell you whether your child has a high instep or not.
The Tsukihoshi shoes I recommend will keep your children’s feet and legs healthy by supporting them and providing great comfort. They also come in bright colors and your children will find them super fun to wear.
I only write reviews of shoes that I have fitted before, otherwise, I wouldn’t know how well-made they are, the amount of support that they provide, and how they fit. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the best Tsukihoshi kids’ shoes. Disclosure: Keep in mind that we may receive commissions when you click our links and make purchases.

What Shoe Size Should You Order?
All of these shoes fit “long”, which means that you need to get the same size that your child measures on the standard foot measuring scale (Brannock Device) to allow for growing room. I know this might sound confusing but Tsukihoshi shoes fit really long and you don’t need to order the shoes in a larger size.
These shoes have proven to be really effective for children with sensory issues because they are made from very soft materials.
What Makes These Shoes Special? – 6 Key Features!
Below you can find the 6 most important features that the Tsukihoshi shoes I recommend provide:
1️⃣ Substantial Outsole/Firm Heel Counter: This feature minimizes the impact that your kids’ feet and legs take every time they become in contact with the ground. The firm heel counter supports and protects your kids’ heels.
2️⃣ Lightweight and Flexible: Tsukihoshi shoes are supportive, but they are lightweight and flexible at the same time, which helps promote natural movement. Tsukihoshi shoes are some of the most lightweight and flexible shoes that I have fitted before.
3️⃣ Comfortable: Most Tsukihoshi shoes provide extra depth and come with rounder toe-boxes. These features are really important because when toes have the appropriate space around them, they are allowed to instinctively grip the ground, providing your children with better balance. When toes are allowed to move freely, they contribute to healthy arch development, and they allow soft bones and cartilage to align naturally throughout their delicate growing process.
4️⃣ Easy On & Off: Parents love how easy it is for children to put these shoes on by themselves and easily take them off. Most Tsukihoshi open up widely, which allows children to easily slide their feet inside the shoes.
5️⃣ Breathable/Antibacterial Removable Sole/Machine Washable: Tsukihoshi shoes are extremely breathable. If you are struggling with your child’s sweaty and smelly feet, these shoes help reduce the sweat – as they come with an antibacterial insole, and you can always throw the shoes in the washing machine – this will kill any remaining bacteria. Tsukihoshi was actually one of the first shoe brands that introduced machine-washable shoes.
6️⃣ Durable: Tsukihoshi shoes are durable and your children will likely outgrow these shoes before they wear them out.

While this shoe company makes mostly everyday sneakers, it also offers a good selection of summer sandals. These sandals only fit children with medium, wide, or extra wide feet, but they won’t fit a child with narrow feet.
Tsukihoshi Sandals – Waterproof, Supportive, and Comfortable!
These sandals come with a forefoot construction that allows your kids’ toes to spread naturally for superior balance and comfort. The sandals also provide great traction to reduce the chances of your child slipping and falling, especially when walking on wet surfaces. If the sandals happen to get smelly or too sandy, you can always throw them in the machine for an easy wash.

I can’t find extra wide dress shoes for my son. He is an adult but wears a big kid’s size of 5.5 (approx.) for boys. We can buy new balance for tennis shoes, but he needs dress shoes (for church or other occasions). I have looked in stores and all over online. Do you know of anyone who sells them? Thanks
Hello Beth,
Yes, find below my recommendations (one has velcro and the other one comes with shoelaces)
Wide Dress Shoe for Boys: Option 1
Wide Dress Shoe for Boys: Option 2
I hope this helps!
I adore Tsukihoshis and my girl has quite big collection of those. Moreover we have 4-5 pairs of new ones that didn’t fit because of the medium width. Unfortunately I can’t find our size of this brand in wide fit anymore, medium does not work because she has painful plexiform neurofibroma on her ankle and on the back of her heel.
Very sad, because I thought I found a favorite shoes brand for a lifetime.
Hello Halyna,
Tsukihoshi shoes are awesome! Children love how comfortable, lightweight, and flexible they are.
The main downside to this shoe brand is how every single shoe style fits a little different. Do you know if your daughter has wide or extra wide feet? In my experience most Tsukihoshi shoes can fit children with wide feet. If you are unsure of your daughter’s exact foot shape take a look at this article:

What shoes is your daughter wearing now?
Tsukihoshi’s are the best. Have B/G fraternal grandtwins. The style I’ve liked best is the Velocity/Dash. For durability and longevity. I try an buy shoes in the fall. Its when I’m buying thick winter socks. That way as their feet grow, I can buy thinner socks when spring comes. Little miss started in the Speed style with her narrow feet. Little man started in the Euro. Hes the reason I found them. Super stinky and Flintstone boxy feet. He also has many issues tripping and falling. These shoes made all the difference. He does have a high instep.
Here we are 6yrs later, they just turned 8. I can recommend the Speed and Velocity/Dash for narrow/Medium width ages 2 to 8. I can also recommend the Velocity/Dash and Storm for wider, boxy, high instep for rough and tumble boys. She is easy on shoes and I can pass along after she outgrows. He on the hand is a single owner kind of lil guy. Regular washing for his though. I only buy Tsukihoshi for him, where I can buy her other brands if they are narrow enough. Still they always get this brand for school shoes. I’d rather just stick with Tsukihoshi because I know what I’m getting. It has been trial and slight error with little man, but the end result has been great!
Hello Nana,
I am sure a lot of families are going to find your feedback helpful! I have found that a lot of families stick with the same shoe brand once they find one that works well for their children. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for this article. I love this brand. Wondering if you had any current style recommendations for girls sneakers size 1.5 , narrow width. Do you like the Glitz style?
Hello Amy,
I am glad that you find the article informative! I usually don’t recommend Tsukihoshi shoes for children with narrow feet as there are other shoe brands that fit a lot narrower than Tsukihoshi. The Glitz style is great, but it tends to fit really well for children with medium or wide feet. You can definitely try the Glitz style, but make sure that there is no extra space around your daughter’s heels.
