Have you been looking for a pair of waterproof shoes for your toddler? Is your toddler wearing a pair of waterproof rain boots but having trouble walking around with them?
I always recommend parents to provide their toddlers with a pair of waterproof sneakers instead of rain boots. Some toddlers might not be fully stable when they walk, and the type of shoes that they wear plays a key role in helping them balance and walk with confidence.
Whether your toddler is already walking confidently or learning how to walk, a pair of waterproof sneakers are always going to be a safer and more versatile choice than a pair of rain boots.
Your toddler’s waterproof sneakers must be supportive but lightweight and flexible at the same time. In addition, the shoes need to provide excellent grip on the bottom to minimize the likelihood of your toddler from falling down, especially when walking on wet surfaces.
There are only a couple of waterproof sneakers available in toddler sizes, but the good news is that I know exactly which ones they are from having fitted them before.
I have been working for a specialized children’s shoe store for over 10 years now. This experience has afforded me many insights into children’s shoes and the way they fit. Our store specializes in shoes for children with foot and leg problems, but we provide regular shoe fittings as well. From my experience on fitting thousands of kids, I have become familiar with the best shoe brands for toddlers and the best styles among those brands.
The waterproof sneakers that I will recommend shortly are some of the most versatile toddler’s sneakers that I have fitted before. In addition to providing the correct amount of support and being lightweight and flexible, these shoes provide excellent traction that will minimize the likelihood of your toddler slipping and falling down.
Another awesome feature of these shoes is how they come with a rounder toe-box instead of a pointier one, which will prevent your toddler’s toes from rubbing against one another or the side of the shoes. It’s important to allow your toddler’s toes to move freely inside the shoes, since when toddlers move their toes that’s a way of exercising their feet.
On a different note, most toddlers tend to outgrow their shoes before they wear them out, since they tend to outgrow their shoes every 3 to 4 months. However, certain toddlers tend to destroy their shoes pretty quickly, and parents get frustrated from having to replace their toddler’s shoes every 2 months. This brings me to another awesome feature that parents love about these shoes which is how they are practically indestructible, since they are reinforced in specific areas where toddlers tend to wear down faster.
It’s important to provide your toddler’s with the correct pair of shoes in order to prevent foot issues such as blisters, calluses, and corns, as well as foot and leg pain.
The shoes I will describe shortly will keep your toddler’s feet dry and comfortable, as long as you order the correct shoe size. Before I provide you with a selection of the best waterproof shoes for toddlers, I want to make sure that you know your toddler’s exact foot size, which involves getting the correct shoe length as well as the correct shoe width, the latter being a factor that most parents tend to ignore.
Several families have reached out letting me know how difficult it is to find a pair of waterproof sneakers for their toddlers. Let me show you what were some of the most common complaints:
“I had to buy a pair of rain boots since I wasn’t able to find a single waterproof pair of sneakers in toddler’s sizes. My toddler keeps falling down when wearing his rain boots, and the last couple of times he was even refusing to wear them. I would love if you could recommend a pair of waterproof sneakers for my toddler. You should know that my toddler has wide feet”.
“My toddler will refuse to move as soon as we put his rain boots on. He will throw on the floor and won’t move until we take them off. I want to make sure his feet stay warm and dry during those rainy days. Any suggestions?
“My daughter loves her princess rain boots, but she has a very difficult time walking in them. I have looked everywhere for a pair of waterproof sneakers and I can’t seem to find any. Is there any shoe company that makes waterproof sneakers for toddlers? Please advise.

Let’s move on to how you can figure out your toddler’s exact foot size from home.
Do You Know Your Toddler’s Foot Size? – Let’s Find Out!
I always recommend parents to take their toddlers to be properly fitted for shoes at their local children’s shoe store, where a shoe fitter can properly measure their feet.
The issue is that most specialized fitting children’s shoe stores have been closing down, and parents are left with big retailers that don’t have staff that knows how to properly measure children’s feet.
This is the main reason why I created a map of the US where I describe the best specialized children’s shoe stores by state. Go to the link below:
If after looking at that map you still can’t seem to find a good fitting children’s shoe store in your area, then proceed to taking a look at an article along with a video I created where I describe the simplest, yet most effective way to figure out your toddler’s foot size from home. Now that you know how to figure out your toddler’s foot size, let’s take a look at the best waterproof shoes for toddlers.
The Best Waterproof Shoes for Toddlers ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I only recommend children’s shoes that I have tested and fitted before. There is no other way to tell how supportive, durable, and well-made the shoes.
Keep in mind that these shoe styles are most appropriate for toddlers who are close to be fully walking on their own or that are already walking. If your toddler is just learning how to walk and is having difficulty walking, there are other shoe styles that will help your toddler balance.

As a standard rule, we always want to provide toddlers with 3/8 of an inch of growing room in order to prevent them from outgrowing the shoes faster than expected. However, it all depends how that particular shoe style that you are buying for your toddler fits. For example, shoes can fit short, long, narrow, wide, or true to size, and depending on how they fit you need to adjust the size that you get for your toddler.
In this case all of the shoe styles fit “true to size”, which means that you need to provide your toddler with a half a size longer of the size that your toddler measured at the foot measuring scale in order to allow growing room.
The issue is that these shoe styles are not available in half sizes, they are available in whole sizes only. This means that if your toddler measured a foot size 5, you will have to provide him/her with a size 6 to allow for growing room. If your toddler measured a foot size 5 1/2, you will still need to provide your toddler with the shoe size 6.
It’s really important to provide your toddler with the correct pair of shoes in the correct shoe size to ensure that their feet and legs develop healthy and naturally. Wearing shoes that are too stiff or that are the wrong size can lead to several foot issues including foot and leg pain.
I have written several other articles that cover everything you need to know about keeping your toddler’s feet healthy, so please do not hesitate to contact me if you are having trouble finding a particular shoe style for your toddler. It doesn’t matter how narrow or wide your toddler’s feet are, there is always at least one particular shoe style out there that will fit the shape of your toddler’s feet, and I will help you find it, feel free to send me an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org
